Has anyone had success cutting out carbs from their diet?
I decided to try a low carb diet for the week and see what my results are, but I'm wondering if anyone has done this and if it actually works.
The one problem I'm having is eating all of my calories for the day.
Advice, thoughts, comments?
I think that cutting carbs is not a great idea. It's okay to up protein and watch your sugar intake, but if you just cut carbs to lose, you'll regain once you reintroduce carbs. you can't live without carbs forever.
Have you read the about the South Beach diet? The 1st 2 weeks you do not eat any rice, potatoes, etc... Then you add in one fruit and one whole grain. Then as you progress you can have more but it is always whole grains and no white rice, white bread, etc...
I personally like South Beach. I'm not tired and never have that sugar fog.
Not everyone agrees with cutting carbs but you have to try it to see how you do.
I had quite a bit of success following the "Carbohydrate Addicts' Diet" (CAD). The biggest success wasn't so much in terms of weight loss but in reducing cravings. For the first time ever in my life, pasta went moldy in my refrigerator because I literally forgot it was there. And pigs flew.
The basic outline of the CAD is that any carbohydrate foods you eat, you eat them just at one meal a day, which you consume within one hour. This meal is a balanced, healthy meal, not a carbfest, and you start it by eating a generous helping of salad, so that you're laying down a basis of bulky, low-calorie food in your stomach before you start in on anything else. It's not a low-carb diet per se, but rather a way of controlling your carbs so that you're eating a healthy amount, not an excess amount.
Whether you control your carbs this way or through any other plan, it shouldn't be too hard to make up the missing calories with a healthy-fat, low-carb food such as nuts, peanut butter, or avocado, for instance.
meaning on normal diet days go on 60 % protien 20% carbs 20% fat .
on carb loading days 60 to 65 % carbs 15 to 20 % prot and 20 % fat.
by the way if u do alot of cardio traiing it isnt a good idea to go on a low carb diet.

I too have problems getting in calories but snacks like walnuts really help. :)
I did the South Beach to lose 40lbs (from Aug '06 to Dec '06) and I think gained about 5 back. I liked it initially because it was healthy (vs. Atkins...) But, when I tried it again it was not as effective and I don't know why.
I have felt alot less deprived on the counting calories method. But I have lost alot more slowly. 12lbs in 3 months, but I feel that it is alot less harsh on my body..
Good Luck.
south beach is great it is the right carbs and the right fats. it worked for me I lost 6 lb in the first two weeks
You'll definitely lose weight on a low/no carb diet...a lot of it will be water weight thought so don't be decieved. Also, i've heard from many atkins/south beach followers that it is very hard to keep what was lost off after reintroducing carbs. So it might be good for a weight loss start but be careful!
