Hi, I was wondering what would be a good workout to do on my own, without having to go to a gym seeing as the ones near me are quite expensive.Any advice would be great. Oh, and does anyone know if working out at night is alright because I prefere it.?

It really depends on what you like to do. If you don't like a certain video, it's going to be harder to commit. I did tae bo for years and loved it. There are many different videos of his to pick from. You could also go to collagevideo.com, or beachbody.com, they have great choices based on your fitness level. As far as working out at night, if it's working for you, then it's fine. There is no "right" time to exercise. Good luck in your video search.

You can also get free weights and a bench, or even use makeshift weights -check out melkor's (the moderator on this forum) profile - sand bags and milk cartons, even kids can make weights.

The gyms near us are really expensive too so between me and my boyfriend we have bought a lot of our own equipment for home. We have a sit up bench, some free weights, a trampette, a mini exercise bike and a twistboard. its probably cost us about £150 altogether over the year but its ours forever now and considering our local gym membership is £410pp per year we've saved a fortune!!

Other than that i do alot of jogging at night because its cooler, 8pm time is the best for me. Plus its free exercise :)

I second the make-shift weights idea, or you could also try craigslist for some cheap second hand equipment.

And if you want to get really creative you could try one of the workouts in this article.

I usually go running if i dont want to go to the gym. We have a track nearby from a school and in the mornings and later evenings its empty and i can track my distance better than just by running on the street. plus its better for your joints. Running is a great cardio workout and always helps me destress as well.

Good luck!

 Haha, I like this one.

"Hey, Dave you look pretty beat."

"Eh, I was just working out a bit, bench pressing my kid.  You know, the usual."

I'm just starting training with Russian Kettlebells.  You can do a google serach for russian kettlebells and find all kinds of information on it.

Basically its a metal ball with a handle that resembles a bell shape.  There are a bunch of different exercises that really work the full body while at the same time providing a cardio workout.  Its perfect for at home use.   They have the bells in various weights ranging from 8lbs to 88lbs.
