This is driving me CRAZY!
It seems like whenever I eat stuff it always tastes extremely SALTY! I'll eat an apple, but all I taste is salt. I'll have a plain cucumber - I taste salt. Sometimes I can almost feel the saltiness coming from behind my back teeth. I have brushed my teeth and flossed and did mouthwash many times, but it doesn't help!
And then sometimes, I'll be eating something and it just tastes like dirt. I don't mean that as in it's gross, it honestly tastes like DIRT.
I miss being able to taste my food and I don't know what's wrong =(
Any ideas? Anyone else experience this?

Thank you for the links smwhipple!
It's just so odd for me because this hasn't happened before. I'm not taking medicine, I don't add salt to my food (except occasionally at dinner and even then it is a very small amount), I eat whole, natural foods, take a multivitamin...I just don't get it

That must be really annoying! I have never experienced this problem myself, but I've heard of it before...apparently it can be quite common. I think there are several probable causes, one of the main ones being dehydration. Are you drinking plenty of water? Also medicines can cause a salty taste in the mouth, if you're taking something new. Besides those, there are some diseases of the salivary gland that could be behind this, although I don't know the specifics, or a sinus infection. Or maybe you have some sort of vitamin/mineral deficiency or even overabundance of?
When you say you taste dirt sometimes that makes me wonder if this is a neurological problem. Like if something is awry in your brain and consequently your senses are affected...thus you taste things that aren't there.
I would see a doctor. Just to see what's up and make sure it's nothing serious. And hopefully find a solution because nobody should have to go life tasting dirt and salt!! Good luck!

I drink PLENTY of water...possibly too much sometimes.
I guess I should see a doctor..so many things seem to be happening lately.

This is very weird. It could be an allergy that you've developed or something else. Definitely make a doctor's appointment, they may be able to pinpoint it. In the meantime, make a list of what you're eating and what it tastes like.
