i've been having problems with milk after i got surgery 2 months ago.
since i LOOOVEEEE milk, i'm kinda upset :( so, i'm gonna start drinking soy milk. does silk plain soymilk taste like cow's milk? i know they have different flavors, like vanilla & chocolate .. but i'm opting for the plain.
in my opinion soy milk doesnt taste like regular milk but it's pretty similar & you get used to it really quickly. all i drink is soy milk, i havent had any cows milk for like 6 months and i can't even remember how it tastes.
I've only ever bought Silk brand and I like it. They have light options as well, which are great for watching calories and fat. I especially like soy milk because unlike skim milk, it's got a more full-fat milk consistency...to me, it's more creamy and less watery.
I second that... I love Trader Joe's soymilk.
Soymilk does not taste like cow milk. Silk and Soydream are richer and smoother than some others. They taste good.
Vitasoy is ok. I've tried Continental and heard other people say they like it, but I think it tastes gross and definitely has an aftertaste. Maybe it's the artificial sweetener??? I don't know.
Almond milk tastes good, but there are not many nutrients, so you should try to get something fortified if you are looking for more nutrients.
Rice milk is ok but it reminds me of very watery skim milk. The nutrient problem shows up with rice milk too unless you get something that is heavily fortified.
Watch out for the sugar/ HFCS content on all of them. There are a lot of sugars in some of these. Just buy some mini packs or individual single serving bottles and start experimenting. Good luck.
Soymilk has a weird aftertaste to me. I didn't like it.
I really liked almond milk, and rice milk was ok, if you like the taste of rice.
I also tried goat milk and the carton said it is easier on digestion than cow milk, this was really good and very creamy, but probably not very good for you in the fat department.
I personally love soy milk and I do not drink regular milk at all. I also drink almond milk (unsweeted almond milk by almond breeze is only 40 calories a cup). I also love soy ice cream! My favorite soy milk is silk vanilla, and my favorite soy ice cream is Whole Soy and Co. My profile contains a link to a blog I work on where there are posts about both (which you might enjoy reading).
If the problem with milk is the lactose (that is usually the problem), you can try lactose free milk. It is slightly sweeter than regular milk, but still tastes pretty good. You can find it in any grocery store.
No, it doesn't really taste like cow's milk. When you first taste it, it kinda tastes... pale, in a way. But the more I drank it, the more I liked it. Now I love it. I was drinking so much today... Actually I think I'll get some more right now!
Silk tastes like moldy chalk water if you get the unsweetened variety, and if you get the regular (sweetened) it tastes sickly sweet (not to mention being loaded with fat and calories). For some reason they can't get it somewhere in between. I use to cook with, only. I've never tried any other brands of soymilk because Silk is the only one offered at my grocery store.
For drinking, I do, however, really enjoy unsweetened almond milk.
