| Any advice? | ||

I had dental spacers put in a week ago and have not been able to eat any truley solid foods since. I am having braces put on in a few weeks and I know that the pain is not going to get better anytime soon. I usuallly snack on fruits and veggies all day and that is the main source of nutrition and calories in my diet. However for the past week I can only eat really mushy foods and veggies don't taste good like that. I manage to still get fruits in but I have had the worst food intake ever this week. My calories are still in check right were I want them but I feel like I am completly lacking anything healthy. I don't know what to do. I feel lost without my usuall carrot sticks and celery. Does anyone have advise on ways to get these things in for snacks? (I am living on Ibuprofen and my mouth still hurts too much to chew.) |

What about liquid diet until then?? I used to have braces and i know what kind of pain your talking about. You will still get calories in but youwont have to chew. Hope your feeling better soon! :) |

You could drink some V8 or other vegetable juice to get in more veggies. |

OMG, V8 juice! I didn't even think of that. I love V8 but I don't consume things like that typically because I like to eat my calories. But that is exactly what I needed. Thanks! |

Smoothies made with Dannon Light Yogurt (60 cals) and a bit of water or milk, plus any fruit you want to throw in--DELICIOUS! Also, you can add ice to the blender to make it thicker/colder/more filling-feeling. As a kid (when I didn't have a weight problem), my mom would always let us get a milk shake after our braces were tightened because she knew we wouldn't be able to eat anything else the rest of the day. Good luck. |

You can also put soup through the blender to make it more "drinkable." Hang in there. Braces are painful, but worth it. I promise! |
