Which one is better for you? I remember hearing that lowfat had more probiotics than nonfat. I have been eating nonfat for a few months, but lowfat doesn't have that many more calories. (I usually get plain and mix in my own fruit.) Also, what about Activia, and other yogurts like that? Are they better than plain, they still seem pretty sugary to me. Any opinions?
'Better' is a difficult term to define and depends on what you're trying to acheive.
Try to eat the lowest calorie yogurt with the least amount of artificial stuff. In terms of probiotics, you can tell by looking at the label. It is independent of the amount of fat in the yogurt itself.
personally i prefer the taste of lowfat plain (and texture too) over nonfat. It is a bit thicker and richer tasting. But i mostly use it for tandoori chicken or making tezziki (sp), or something similar. I buy 4oz lowfat flavored yogurts, more for my 3 y/o than for me, since he needs the calories and fat (as a picky eater he would eat fruit allllll day if i let him and nothing with fat in it). But i get em as 4 oz so i can eat them too (about 100 calories each). But if i was just buying flavored yogurt for me i would buy 6-8 oz nonfat, so i can have more bulk.
Thanks for the replies! I think that lowfat tastes better, so I think I am going to change to that! Fyrfli- that sounds like my 2 y/o, if she sees any fruit on her plate she will not touch anything else! She would eat only fruit if I let her! Although she loves yogurt too. Thanks again!
I've been eating those Dannon Light & Fit yogurts almost on a daily basis. They taste really good considering they have 0 fat, 60 calories, and only 7 grams of sugar. I'd definitely recommend those.
I do both. I use lowfat kefir for my smoothies, which provides a good solid snack/part of a meal. I use nonfat yoghurt (plain Greek) for protein and snack emergencies.
I really like the Dannon Light & Fit its great in a smoothie and just for a snack they have 0 fat 0 added sugar and only 45 calories and they are very tasty. The raspberry is my favorite but they are all very good I cant tell you what the blueberry tastes like because DH always gets to them first ![]()
lowfat yogurt tends to have like twice the calories as fat free, actually. i go with fat free (dannon light & fit--60 calories) because i'm only concerned about calories, and i don't mind eating artificial sweeteners. i guess you have to figure that whichever is more important to you is what determines what you eat *shrug*
