It was the best steak ever... but now I'm suffering!

Ate a really good steak last night, it was really big and I ate too much. Now I feel bloated and sooo full.  How long does it take steak to digest? Ugh.

To digest fully?

I believe its 3-4 days. Veggies digest in 3-4 hours, but meat is much longer.

You'll be okay soon. Just relax :) I ate a really good steak last weekend myself. mmm I still dream about that steak. so I know the bloat you're experiencing.

The last steak I ate put me in hospital! Given, I have digestion problems and also hadn't eaten a large amount of red meat in one sitting like that in a long time, red meat being a trigger food with my stomach anyway... yyeaah. ;__; I love a good rare steak, though, even if it hurts to eat it.

Star covered the time it takes, but as a temporary solution to your bloating and fullness, try sitting with a hot water bottle on your stomach and/or drinking some fennel tea if you have any. :] Or taking a slow (SLOW is the imperative word!) walk to stimulate digestion. Feel better :D

Will try your suggestions! I think I just need to get moving.

According to my dietitian it is 12-14 hours.

Hi.  Just some of my own observations with this type of problem:  If you are going to enjoy a steak, do not eat bread or other refined carbs with it.  Do not have a dessert.  If you have any alcohol, just a small amount of wine is all you should have.  Then your body will be able to digest just fine.  Now that you are upset, if you have access to Kombucha, drink one.  I find it at Whole Foods Market refrigerated beverage section.  I keep a couple bottles at the back of our spare refrig, for when one of us needs one.  Tea made with sea veggies could help, as well as tea made with grated ginger and honey.  Taking probiotics and eating yogurt with active cultures daily helps keep your digestion in tip top shape for the occassional steak.  You will have to take it easy today.  If you don't have any of the items I mentioned available to you, seek them out and keep them on hand for the future.  I really hope you feel better soon.
