The Heat is Killing Me mover2
  Jul 19 2008 21:42

The heat has killed my program.  I live in Houston, and unable to go to a gym. The past week the more I walk the worse I feel.  I have had to stop walking it is not worth heat stroke.  I am looking for something else to do inside, does anyone have a wii fit?

The Wii Fit is wonderful, but I wouldn't call it adequate exercise. You can do plenty inside the house...weights, cardio. If you have Comcast, they have Exercise TV, which I find to be great.

You could try some type of video work out. I like to dance so I might do that in your situation. There is no "beating the heat" sometimes, depending on your situation, and moving inside is always better than suffering!!

I always hate having to workout inside, but once I'm doing it, I'm ok with it. Sometimes it is just getting started that's the hard part. And honestly, even if WII fit isn't super challenging (I haven't done it), at least it is SOMETHING. Anything you do while waiting for the weather to improve is better than nothing.

Good luck.

Check out this home workout program (ignore the advertising!) - it'll tide you over until you can hit the gym ;) Or roll your own from the exercise center here, Paige Waehner has a lot of interesting programs you can try on for size.

I don't know what your schedule is like, but I don't go out to exercise until 6 pm....7 is even better. Or, if you get out before 10am, you should be fine.

I live (probably) 30 miles north of you, so I know what you mean with the heat and the humidity. The only tip I have is to avoid the direct sunlight hours (11am-6) because having the sun overhead only makes things a million times worse.

(nothing to do with the wii fit, sorry!)

Go to the mall and walk.  Some malls allow walkers in an hour before stores open.

Go downtown to the tunnels, walkers are in there all day long..

I ran in the blisterring heat yesterday. I jumped in an open fire hydrant, mid-run, to cool off. It was awesome! Some pretty ladies even whistled and made cat calls at me when I was soaking wet. That was kinda neat.

Most people were taken aback though, I'm sure. It's not everyday you see a soaking wet man running down the street.
