| Hi, i have never had a problem taking a bm with my first pregnancy, infact i lost weight and was going no problem. With this pregnancy ( i am only 5 weeks) i am having a problems. i went just a tiny bit yesterday and felt very uncomfortable and today just a little too.
i am eating very healthy and am wondering if my body just needs all the nutrients i am consuming....also could it be too much dairy? one more question, before i knew i was pregnant i had a few drinks during a few days in the week. of course after i found out i didn't touch the stuff. did i harm my baby??? thanks:) |

Can't really answer about the alcohol, I doubt it did harm. Many women continue to drink throughout their pregnancy and their babies are fine (I'm not endorsing it though!). About the constipation - it's completely normal during pregnancy. There are loads of different changes going on in your body during pregnancy which tends to reduce the motility of your gut causing you to not go as often as you would like. My advice is to keep eating healthily with plenty of fibre and if it really gets too bad for you, just go see your doctor. Hope this helps! |

before I knew I was pregnant I had my birthday dinner and consumed wine. You'll be fine. Just don't drink now!
As for the bathroom issues- up your water and get a box of FiberOne. Up your fruits- apples are great for that. I'm sure your hormones shift is causing your issues- and every pregnancy is different. But try Fiber One!! |

Before I found out I was pregnant with my son, I was drinking quite frequently. I don't mean to sound like an alcoholic, lol, what I mean is, my husband and I had a ton of social engagements in the two weeks before I found out, and I was having having a drink or two at each gathering. Once I found out I was pregnant, I stopped drinking alcohol, but what I did consume didn't seem to harm my son in anyway. I doubt you've done any damage to your fetus, so try not to worry. :)
As for constipation, I didn't have any problems with my son. This pregnancy is a different story. I eat at least the minimum daily fiber recommendation everyday, usually much more, and drink tons of water, but it's not enough. My doctor suggested I take Colace stool softeners (the one that's a stool softener only, not the one that includes a laxitive). The Colace has helped tremendously. |

This is my 3rd pregnancy and I have had much more trouble with constipation this pregnancy than previous ones. I wish I had taken something like Colace in the beginning when it was really bad. Its gotten better as I have progressed but I only go every 2 or 3 days which is very weird for me but at least I don't have to strain or have any pain. I drink 80-100oz of water a day which is much better than I did when I wasn't pregnant. |

Oh and as far as alcohol goes. The baby doesn't even implant until you are around 6 weeks along. It's just growing in there. You are fine. Almost all women have a drink before they find out they are pregnant. |

Constipation during pregnancy isn't uncommon. I am a midwife and here is what I recommend to my clients: Drink a ton of water (at least a gallon a day) and eat fresh fruits and vegetables (natural fiber). If you still have problems, then there are some things you can do with herbs that will also help and they are much better for you than any stool softeners because they are natural. Chlorophyll is good. IT is also good for boosting your iron levels without constipating like some iron supplements do. I prefer liquid Chlorophyll and usually recommend about 1 Tab mixed with water or juice each day. I do recommend more for women who are anemic but just for constipation or as a supplement, 1 Tab is probably enough. By the way, if you are taking iron supplements in the form of ferrous sulfate, this could be the source of your problem. This is the cheapest form of iron and most common but it often causes constipation. Check to see what's in your prenatal vitamins. It's basically the same iron that forms rust on a cast iron skillet. There are plenty of other sources of iron. But make sure your iron supplement is from a vegetable source if you don't want it to constipate you. Vegetable is the easiest on your body to absorb. When iron constipates you it also means you aren't really benefiting from it because your body isn't absorbing it. That's why it constipates. Another thing that is really helpful is taking 3-4 capsules of Yellow Dock each day. Yellow dock will help regulate you and it also good for increasing your hemoglobin. Regarding drinking in early pregnancy, I don't think you should worry about it. As long as you stopped when you found out you were pregnant, your baby should be fine. If something goes wrong during the very early stages of development, it's pretty much all or nothing. In other words if the baby is harmed during this stage, you would most likely would have had an early miscarriage (around 6 weeks). The most important thing now is that you are taking good care of yourself for the remainder of your pregnancy and that includes thinking lots of positive happy thoughts so your baby will benefit from your positive attitude. Congratulations on your pregnancy. It's great that you are using cc to help monitor your diet. I think the tools here are great for that purpose. I also saw from your profile that you want to be a doctor. What a wonderful goal! I wish you the best. ~ Beth |

I'm about as far along as you, and in the same boat. I can't remember it being this bad with my other two, but every pregnancy is different, and it is quite normal. Like others mentioned, just make sure you are drinking a lot of water, and try some fiber. Some fruit is actually binding, especially bananas, so don't eat a lot of them, but other fruits, as mentioned, are high in fiber, like apples, which helps with constipation.
Don't feel bad, I haven't gone since Friday
As far as the alcohol, I wouldn't worry about it. You have done the best thing and stopped once you found out. |

I'm with Vanessa on this one: Fiber One all the way! I make sure I eat a small salad and apple with my lunch every day, no matter what. Fiber One is the biggest help, though! As far as the alcohol, before I found out I was pregnant the first time, I enjoyed myself a little too much at a friend's wedding and my daughter turned out just fine. |
