| The "towel" test: | ||
| Jul 19 2008 04:00 | ||
I didn't measure myself before I started and now I wish I had. I was at the pool with my kids today and when I wrapped the towel around me like I usually do, it actually CLOSED over my thighs and butt! I was so surprised I stood there re-doing it a couple of times, then I studied the towel thoughtfully for a moment and measured it against a couple others. Yep, same basic towel . . . so it must be ME that was smaller! The gap was noticeable before-at least 3 inches. I was so surprised and excited to realize what it meant! Silly, happy moments in the history of [my] weight loss. What are yours? |

kinda the same thing.....I was trying on some shirts for work (the button up kind), put it on and the button end and the eye end overlapped....before I had to really work to get the two sides together to button it up....
and no ugly gaps either :D |

I had a similar experience about a month ago. I was getting out of the shower and I put the towel around me like I always doand it wrapped around me plus slightly overlapped and before there was a gap of about 3 inches or so. I know this didn't happen overnight, I guess I just didn't notice. Here's the really dumb one. I have these supper cute strappy black heels that I bought a few years back ( 3 1/2, before I gained wt with last child) and I haver tried to wear them several times, in about 2 hours my feet were buldging through the straps and they hurt badly. I have taken a new position at my job and I dress up for work now, I don't have a lot of nice shoes so I thought "well I guess I'll me miserable and wear these". I wore them to work for the entire 10 hour day and when I got home, I didn't even have marks on my feet from were the straps hit the top of my foot! Who know loosing weight made a big differance on your feet. |

I was getting dressed for work the other day and when I went to fasten my belt, I realized that I ran out of holes. I'm going shopping for a new one tomorrow. |

Congrats, all! How great is it when these little rewards for all your hard effort come at you?! I've lost 10 lbs so far, and I had my first one today ... in the shower, I noticed the back-fat that I used to be able to feel folding in (which I'm SUPER conscious of because I've never had it in my life until I got up to 205) wasn't creasing and touching the skin below - it's on it's way to smoothville! Nice! I thought to myself ... "goodbye, back-fat, hello halter tops"! |

I had a similar revelation a couple days ago. We have 2 sizes of bath towels, and I always use the larger ones because the others don't fit all the way around me (which means I have to sneak out of the bathroom so as not to be seen by my roommates). Well a few days ago, I went to get a towel and all the larger ones were dirty so I grabbed a smaller one. And it fit all the way around me, and even overlapped by a couple inches. I was so excited, that I had to go tell my boyfriend. I also have a pair of jeans that I stopped wearing because I could barely get into them, and when I did they were so tight they left marks. And now I can wear them comfortably. Yay! |

| I went to put on a pair of pants that were always pretty snug-fitting and the wouldn't even stay up around my waist!!! Haha. Oh and I grabbed larger sizes in clothes at the store, and had to go back for smaller sizes a few times before I got it right. Little things like this keep me motivated to lose 10-12 more lbs =) | ||

Wearing large T-shirts instead of extra large, and a 16 neck dress shirt instead of 17.5. The belt I use just for holding up my workout shorts (which used to not need a belt) has 3 extra new holes in it. My suits were ridiculously large and fortunately all the stores are running 75% off sales right now so I picked up 3 new suits this week and they are my "DO NOT GET BIGGER THAN THIS EVER" reminders. I needed a new belt and to me it looks like a kid's belt when I hold it up at arm's length, but it fits. |

I totally do the towel thing, too. I have an overlap at the top, but still a pretty good size gap at hip level. It's a shrinking gap, though. I also really like looking at how much less room I take up in the bathtub now. |

LOL, the same thing happened to me! The two edges of the towel would meet, but there was a huge gap where my belly would protrude, and therefore would not close over my thighs. I got a shock the other week, when I realised that I could close the towel, and that I could overlap it enough to fold the top over and have the towel stay up, without me having to hold it! I was so amazed! I went running round the house saying to my husband "Look! the towel is staying up! the towel is staying up!", although he was hoping that it wouldn't, men, lol. OK I know I am a nutter, but it was a great milestone to pass. I should not have been that surprised, I have lost 63lb. Congratulations mkculs! you have done well. |

Mine was yesterday when i went shopping with my mum. I picked out all the size 14 (uk) things i liked then went to try them on. To my amazement they were all too big for me, i had to swap them for a size 12. I now fit perfectly into a size 12, it's taken a long time to get there. I know that if i keep up my effort at the gym ad stick to my diet i'll be able to fit into all my size 10 clothes. Sometimes it used to makes me sad to see my clothes in the wardrobe and know i cant fit into them but now it makes me smile, one day after all my hard work i can wear them. Well done to everyone on their quest for a healthier body and being able to wear clothes that fit.

I was wearing one of my favorite pink t-shirts and I noticed that it wasn't stretched tight across my b**bs. Also, when I amreally overweight, my b**bs are sort of like a "shelf" that interferes with eating. I'm short, so the table isn't that far away from my mouth when I eat. Getting around that "shelf" and not spilling food there is really the pits. Doesn't happen anymore though. |

I had a very similar experience with both the towel and the clothes.. Big bath sheet never fit around me and I noticed the other day it goes around and then some lol.. We were going on vacation a few weeks ago and I knew my 2x shorts were big, so decided I needed a little smaller.. Well after grabbing the 1x and having them fall off, I decided to grab the "normal" xl.. My boyfriend who was with me said he thought I needed smaller, but I felt there was no way I could be smaller especially since these were really cheap clothes in kmart.. Much to my surprise I actually had to get the normal size large!!

Wow, I'm seriously impressed! Isn't it marvelous when the fruits of your efforts hit you out of the blue like that! I find myself to be so dead focused on the daily calorie intake that despite all my charting and graphing, I lose sight of the real meaning of my weight loss. I had a minor victory this past week, too. I had a job interview -- in another city, no less, which required me to fly there and back again, all in one day. Needless to say, this was going to be one very long day of flying, hanging around in airports, and then being fresh and alert to "sell" myself throughout the interview. I was very worried about finding an outfit to wear that would survive the rigors of an airplane trip on a hot and humid summer day, and which would allow me to stay comfortable, yet look professional and business like. I went shopping for an outfit, and was positively floored to discover that I could again fit into a size 3 at Chico's, AND into an XL at the department stores! (Before I started on this diet, I was pushing a 2 in the Womens' department! Wait. It's not a "diet", but a newer, healthier lifestyle!) What a pleasure it was to not have to wrack my brains out trying to find something that was somehow both chic and could magically hide my weight, or to not have to drive all over heck and at the end of it all get enormously depressed about not finding anything suitable in my size. Then I had an even bigger realization. I probably could fit into some of the outfits that I used to wear on past business trips! Sure enough, when I returned home, I found the perfect outfit already in my closet! I was able to return that expensive jacket I bought at Chico's, and saved myself a fair bit of money. (Heh. Chico's has nice stuff for women "of a certain age", but even on sale it's quite expensive.) Oh, and the outfit worked out perfectly. It held up during the flights there and back, and I arrived feeling fresh, unfussed, and without the added pressure of being conscious that my outfit is not quite right. I was pleased with how the day went, and with myself for sticking with my weight loss efforts, and regardless of whether the interview leads to a new job or not, the experience proved to be rewarding in and of itself. |

I'm a jeans and t shirt kind of girl. For the longest time, my boyfriend and I could wear the same shirts. Whenever I bought a graphic tee or a concert tee that i knew we both would wear, I would grab a Large and not even think about it. Well I got home from a show yesterday and tried it on. the Large is HUGE.. it fits him, but not me. Looks like we're gonna have to start buying two seperate sizes!

This so happened to me too! I used to always use the beach towels or a robe to wrap up in after a shower. A few weeks ago I tried a regular towel because I forgot my robe in my bedroom and it actually covered me. I was thrilled |

I went shopping this weekend for smaller pants. My old pants fitted me baggy. It was a great feeling I was able to find pants that fitted me w/out going to the plus sizes. From a size 18 went down to 14. |
