Movie this weekend... please help or just wish me luck!

So I am going to see a movie tomorrow or Sunday and I always have a really, really hard time saying NO to popcorn. Please wish me luck so i can break the curse this time. Do any of you have some ideas on something i could sneak in? Not just something small but something not too caloric, relatively easy to sneak in and sorta high in volume? Also, I'm a vegan. Thanks, guys!

I sneak in Smart Pop Mini Bags (100 calories). Though it doesn't compare to the deliciousness that is movie popcorn, it's still pretty good popcorn considering that it's only 100 calories. Hell, you could pop a couple bags if you wanted to and put the popcorn in a ziplock bag. Oh, and don't forget to wear a big purse to fit this all in lol.

I used to have a terrible time of saying no to popcorn at movie theaters too! But once you walk out of there, knowing you didn't give into temptation, you feel SO much better.

I  know most people don't like those 100 calorie packs but I usually sneak one of the oreo 100 cal packs in just in case I really do want to start munching on something if the people I go with are eating popcorn right beside me. Last time I went, the movie was so good, I forgot all about that 100 cal pack and didn't even get to eat it lol

Good luck & enjoy that movie guilt free! haha :D

Thanks for the replies! Maybe the force be with us =oP

I saw an article somewhere the other day where it said dieters could have a child's popcorn (no butter of course) at the theaters.

I tend to find if I tell whoever I'm with that I'm not going to eat something before I go, it gives me extra motivation to stick to it. I don't want everyone thinking I'm so weak willed I can't even walk past a bag of popcorn!

Good luck, and think how proud you'll be if you leave the popcorn alone!

what i usually do get is a small portion of wasabi green peas (about 20g). those things are potent, but oh so good (to me at least.) i can't eat more than one at a time, and i can't eat more than once every 10 seconds, because the moment the wasabi taste hits me, i need about 10 seconds at least to recover. The peas last me pretty long despite the small volume... it's not something that everyone will like or be able to take though.

an alternative is to bring a bottle of hot tea in to the movie theater and sip it, or have your meal before the movie so that you don't feel hungry and munchy during the movie.... the 100cal packs sound like a mighty good idea too though. (: good luck!

Put a bunch of grapes in a sandwich bag & sneak them in!!  & possibly a bottle of water or some other low cal drink.

Funny how I never used to sneak food in until I started trying to eat healthier, but it SAVES $$$ too.
Just went to the movies today and ate before I went and told myself at the counter that movies don't equal popcorn and I wanted to have dinner when I got home so I had a bottle of water and the movie was so good I didn't care about munching AND I was so proud of myself afterward because I went home and made a really delicious chicken breast and spinach dinner! So just know that you can do this and it is for your bodies good not your mind that associates food with a lot of activities in your life!
You go, girl!  Ta DAAAA!

Ugh!  I'm a sucker for popcorn at the movies, too.  It's interesting that I can watch one at home without making a bag of it, but somehow at the movie theater it's impossible to resist.  I usually end up treating that popcorn as if it were one of my regular meals -- a not very healthy one, but a meal nonetheless.  Furthermore, I have never liked my popcorn with all that "butter" that other people put on it, so that's very easy for me to resist.  I think it's because I dislike having greasy fingers way way more than I like the added "butter" flavor.

How about bringing in some carrot sticks?  Or jicama sticks?  They're both kind of sweet, and will provide something crunchy and chewy to occupy your mouth with.  Or you can make toasted, salted pumpkin seeds to chew on.  Or even roast some garbanzo beans, which can then have spices mixed into it.

Here's a dry spice mix that can be used as a "dip" for veggies, or as a spice to add to the pumpkin seeds or garbanzo beans:

1/2 C. sugar

1 T. dried oregano

1 t. dried sage

1/2 C. curry powder

1 t. ground cumin

1/4 t. cayenne pepper

Salt to taste

Combine the sugar, oregano and sage in a spice mill (I use a small coffee grinder that I keep for this purpose).  Whir until the dried herbs seem to disappear and everything looks like a fine powder.  Pour it this sugar mixture into a small, nonstick skillet.  Stir constantly over a low heat for about 10 minutes.  (You want the mixture to turn into a medium brown without scorching it.)  Then combine this with the rest of the ingredients.  This mixture will keep for a long time in a jar, and works excellently well as a "dip" for raw vegetables.  You could probably put some in a plastic bag, add in your chopped vegetables, and shake it all up -- this way you don't need to fuss with separate containers in a dark theater.  You could even make some popcorn in an air-popper and use this spice mix to season it.

I just went to see a movie and I was concerned about the same thing!  My friends snuck in their own popcorn, which helped them.  Me?  I snuck in some Fiber One cereal, I love how it tastes and it seemed to help me.  I love popcorn and eat it often (air popped) and I suppose that also helped me resist the temptation.  (as if the prices weren't enough)  I know I can always get it at home.

Good luck and enjoy the movie!

I have never had a problem walking past the concesstion stand. Probably because it just infuriates me how high their prices are. I already have a hard time paying 8 bucks for at ticket. Just bring your own popcorn and a very large purse!

I used to work in a movie theater and would snack on the popcorn until one day when I was cleaning the butter dispensers.  The plastic tube that the butter flavored oil flows through gets clogged with fat deposits that remain on the tube.  Then the oil can't get through.  Made me think about what all the fat was doing to my tubes.  Yuch.

Even if you don't get the butter we put so much oil and salt into it.

Good for you for resisting!

I used to never buy popcorn (or anything for that matter) at the theater. I've always been bothered by their exhorbitant prices. But DH likes to get popcorn. We went to the movie on Friday and actually did buy movie theater popcorn Frown However, we had planned this ahead of time. We looked up the calories in a medium bag of popcorn that we intended to share. I had some "wiggle room" in my calories for the day. In the end, I ate less than my allotted half. But it still would have been better to save the calories for something else.

If you're vegan, just tell yourself you don't want to be eating the movie theatre popcorn, because I am pretty sure that with all the butter they put in it, it is NOT vegan at all. (Btw, I am also a vegan.) You can try bringing your own air popped popcorn or maybe some cereal or puffed wheat/corn. Carrot sticks sound like a great idea, but it might get kinda noisy!

Actually, the popcorn at the theatre chain i go to makes it without real butter, and then they have that real butter you can put on it (of course i don't opt for that). Most movie theatre popcorn is actually safe for vegans as long as you don't get the liquid butter they offer you. It IS vegan. So, i tried to resist, brought an apple and some of those mochi crunch crackers but ended up eating probably the amount of a kid's sized serving mixed with the mochi crunch. I probably ended up eating about 400-600 calories but i fit it into my daily allotment (for the most part!). I succumbed to the popcorn because everyone with me had some and my boyfriend always gets the huge tub. But, it was worth it. I was careful... Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

What I do is I pop my own popcorn at home. Just pick up the kernals at a grocery store, get yourself a popcorn popper thing, and then you'll be able to prepare yourself a low cal snack. Seriously, just plain popcorn is SOO good.

my fave is the 100 cal mini bags of orville redenbacher KETTLE CORN... salty and sweet... and it hits the spot.  I pop it, let it cool a bit, then transfer to a ziploc.  i also bring a mini bag of m&ms b/c nothing beats popcorn and chocolate mixing in your mouth at the same time!

if sneaking in is too much for you and still feel tempted, then just get the kid's pack... it's the perfect size portion, comes with a small drink and candy... you could get diet soda or give the extras away... also, it's typically cheaper and you get a variety!
