Hi, I'm new here and have a few questions.

I'm really determined to lose 40 pounds. I'm curious what I should be doing to do this, should I run/jog but for how long? And do you think it's possible to lose more than 40? I hold all my weight in my stomach, so I have skinny arms and legs...I don't eat too much to begin with which I know is completely bad for me so I would like to know what is an affordable diet I should follow and if any one of you have any tips that I could adopt.

I would really appreciate your help and support on this! and i'm glad i came across this website, thanks!

Welcome to Calorie Count and to the Weight Loss forum!! Have you checked out the Weight Loss Forum Reources thread at the top of this forum? Also have you seen that we have a New Members forum which has a great thread The Unofficial Guide to Calorie Count? Good luck and let us know if there is anything we can help you with!

I've lost almost 60lbs -- so it's definitely possible to lose 40 -- presuming you have a need to lose 40. Lot's of helpful people available on the forums. Just remember, you do actually have to eat to lose weight, probably more than you think you do. A couple of sites for you to take a gander at:

  • Dieting & Metabolism (explains starvation mode and why undereating is counter-productive)
  • The Body Neglected (explains what happens when you undereat a long time)

    thanks for the info!!

I stick to between 1200 to 1600 calories per day, based on if I use the treadmill, clean etc. or not.  I am not looking to lose weight per se, but just look good, feel good.  My first month counting calories in March dropped me a size, but I didn't really look it.  Good luck!

I'm brand new to the site as well, but I've lost over 25lbs on my own so far. I was 5'8 and 201lbs when I'm started, and my goal was only 185lbs. I can't tell you how satisfying 173lbs looks in the mirror! The more you lose the more you'll want to lose, and you know you can do it.

I don't know how quickly you're looking to lose weight, but simple lifestyle changes make a huge difference. I walk every where I can (up to 2 miles away), or I ride my bike (and hey, with gas prices the way they are, it's more than just weight loss). I also made rules for myself, like no fried foods or no white bread, etc.  I started to be satified with healthlier choices than I ever was with junk food. I've been "dieting" for the past two years now, and I know I CAN live the rest of my life this way, and that's key.
