Quick question about legs? clangworthy
  Jul 18 2008 18:13

Okay I started this part of my quest in the end of April on CC and took my measurements which were

Arm 12

Chest 43

Waist 35 1/2

Hips 38

Thigh 19

Calf 14

These stayed the same in May, June and last night I took my measurements and they were

Arm 11 1/2

Chest 42 1/2

Waist 35

Hips 37 1/2

Thigh 19

Calf 14

So I was excited to see that I lost 1/2 an inch basically all around but I am concerned that my legs didn't change at all, as I have said I started about three weeks ago jogging every other day for 25 minutes now and the other three days a week I use the exercise ball, weights and crunches I alternate what day I swim on but usually it ends up after I jog.  I don't want to have like Popeye legs or anything and they do look toner but should I be concerned that they are not getting a little smaller?

Thanks for any insight!

Have a Great Day!!!

Quick edit I also decided to measure how tall I am because I always say I am 5'1 and Yeah me I am 5'2.  My weight has been holding for the last three days at 153 so that is 1 lbs this week.

For legs, you should probably do some light lifting and repetitions (if you don't want to build muscle mass). I normally just use a bench that is at knee level and simply step up and down on one leg 15 times and then switch over to the other and do another 15. Squats also help. For calves, simply stand on tip-toe and then come down without letting your heel touch the ground, then step up on tip-toe again. Do this for 15-30seconds and you will feel a burn . Basically: to avoid building muscle increase the repetitions of each exercise and go light on weights.

Thanks theswissmiss.  I don't mind having muscular legs I just don't want them to be out of proportion with the rest of me.

For legs, try swimming and yoga. They will help your legs muscles stretch and get lean without bulking up

Hi mOm6, thanks for the advice.  I do swim for about an hour three days a week.  I guess my concern is not that my legs look bad they just didn't lose anything like the rest of me and I was wondering if I should be concerned so I don't eventually look like Olive (in my dreams) with Popeye legs.....LOL

I think 19 inch thighs are very slender. Maybe you aren't losing from your thighs because you don't really have anything to lose from them. Is your weight mainly in your upper body? I know mine is mainly in my lower body, so when I lose weight, not much comes off of my upper body. To me, it sounds like you're doing great. Good luck!

Thanks Ashleyt1.  I do carry most to all of my weight around my middle.  I have a perfect inner tube attached to my middle.  I never thought about where it was located so thanks.

You're welcome!

Your legs measurements sound great to me.  I'm about the same weight and just a bit taller and my thighs are about 21 inches, so 19 sounds super.

Also remember that since your legs are proportionally smaller it might take longer to see them getting smaller.  Your waist getting 1/2 inch smaller (from 35.5 to 35) is less than a 2% change.  If your calves got 2% smaller would only be about 1/4 of an inch.  Those small changes are harder to measure.

I think you're doing great!!!

Thanks karozel I think I just worry because I really have always had muscular legs but I don't want to look deformed.

Even at 235 my legs were really no different then they are now so now that I am down to 153 I thought I would notice a change, the are more defined and when I flex my leg I actually have cuts and curves so that is better the the chub rub I was sporting before.  LOL
