Today I ate some rice that was tinged red, tasted a little sour, and was slathered in melted cheese at the top. I was wondering what kind of sauce and cheese it most likely is, or what the dish is called. Thanks! ;)
If Italian.. probably Sweet & sour rice. Not sure.
Was it red from tomato paste? Wasn't like mexican rice was it? Any other ingredients..or just rice and cheese?
It could have been mexican, I suppose, although their mexican food was all placed on a separate stick-in menu. I think it might have been tomato paste, but unsure. I'm a little worried it might have been a lot of oil, but I'm not too good with these things xD And yeah, there were some other ingredients; just some onions, celery, squid, and clams mixed with the cheese while slathered on top the red rice.
Which restaurant? Maybe a calorie guide online or a menu. Sounds healthy. Rice has quite a few calories as is tho. I don't eat rice much. If truly Italian, it would be olive oil and at least healthier for you, but its still an oil. Usually foods from dining out add lots of stuff to enhance flavor.. without any reguard to calories. Don't worry, it was a treat..not a cheat.
In all honesty, it wasn't much of a treat...didn't like the taste that much, but I felt that it was a waste if I didn't eat any of it haha...the picture they provided had completely white rice with the veggies and seafood on it...oh well haha. I'd just be glad if someone could identify this food =]
paella? it is a rice dish from spain (tho there are other versions) with seafood.. it is reddish from saffron. It has veggies in it... the cheese thows me. A seafood rissotto? with tomatoes in it maybe... risotto is really creamy tasting (which is from starch in the rice not cream).. damn now i want some risotto lol!
Hm if the pic was white "rice" with red seafood on it I would say it's not a paella.
I would go with either Cioppino w/ risotto (Ciopinno is mainly tomatoes, spicey, shrimp, sometimes sausage, and other seafood like clams/crab/lobster/etc)
Another thing it may be is jambalaya... I always make that with seafood and top it with cheese. Plus it's excellent over white rice. Lotsa seafood and sausage (but it can totally be made w/o sausage)
Hope that helps
It's definitely not risotto, since the rest of the menu listed risottos and this one was just listed as "baked rice." I think I'm going to go with the jambalaya =] Thanks, guys!
