| My oatmeal is BORING. | ||
| Jul 18 2008 03:36 | ||
For the past two months, every time I've eaten oatmeal (usually 4-6 times a week, but I alternate with toast, eggs, etc.) I've made it the following way: 1/3 cup rolled oats This mix of things seems to satisfy me, but it's getting incredibly BORING. I'm looking for awesome oatmeal ideas (Not necessarily low-calorie- I'm sort of trying to gain/maintain, not lose.) to spice up my morning a little. And yes, I eat hot cereal in the summer. :) Thankye! :D |

Original Post by wistfulxthinking: I've tried it with Almond Breeze and coconut milk. Both add unique dimensions to the oatmeal :] |

<3 oatmeal! Cinnamon is a good idea, I think I'll try that :) Making it with vanilla soymilk (Silk brand is good, there is a huge difference in the taste between brands) makes it kinda sweet and adds protein. Really yummy. Also there is the classic Splenda brown sugar/raisins combo. Let's see...chopped pecans are really yummy too, but I hardly ever buy them cos they are a little pricey. |

wistfulxthinking: That sounds good. XD It's like adding jam to oatmeal. I bet I could do that, too. MMMmm... How come I didn't think of this stuff before?!? I mean, I was adding APPLE BUTTER but I can't think to add JAM to it?!? Aahhh.. sbearman: OOOooh. Thank you. XD I'd like to try that banana bread oatmeal one. Gotta get some more nuts though. Mwuahaha. mandiegirl: Cinnamon is awesome in oatmeal. c: Actually, cinnamon is awesome in everything.. tehehehe. I've had Silk before, and it's very good, but I never made oatmeal with it; when I had it, I was making oatmeal with water. D; I think maybe I'll invest in some more of that and try it out. I've been meaning to buy some anyway. :)
Thank you guys so much. :D I just loveloveloveLOVE oatmeal and really, the more recipes the better. |

I like to add grated apple and walnuts or raisins to my oatmeal. I also do a "oatmeal sundae" with the kids and have small bowls with the following ingredients for them to mix in as they wish: grated apple, brown sugar, maple syrup, chopped walnuts, dried cranberries, dried dates, and raisins.
They TOTALLY LOVE IT. and eat like two bowls of oatmeal each. |

growing up I always had it with brown sugar, raisins and milk milk & honey try it with 1-2 Tablespoons heavy whippping cream--decadent Sometimes I like it with just a pat of butter This morning I had 2 peaches that I sliced and cooked with the oatmeal, and added 1 T of maple syrup--it took longer than usual to cook, but it was good several years ago, I would add nuts, applesauce, sugar or maple syrup I've added all the berries mentioned. Pitted cherries would be good, too. I'm checking out that blogspot link.... |

I vary mine with different kinds of dried fruits and chopped nuts. I top my bowl with a tablespoon of flaxseed meal, after the oatmeal is cooked because cooking flaxseed meal makes it gummy. Some of my combinations - dried cranberries and walnuts, apricots and almonds, raisins and pecans, figs and sunflower seeds - the combinations are endless. |

i always put a tablespoon of peanut butter and half a banana...sounds weird but it's good. i've used raisins too, a little lower on the calories than the pb/banana combo. |

Not necessarily very figure-friendly, but you should try adding a tablespoon of Nutella! Delicious! It becomes all gooey, chocolatey. More like a dessert than breakfast. :) |

I love a scoop of vanilla protein - a dash of brown sugar (more if you need to gain) - I mix this often and add walnuts on occasion! Have fun! I eat it everyday! Sometimes I make it cold as a milkshake with protein/ice/water - |

I like it in smoothies - uncooked. Yum. 1/4 to 1/3 c uncooked, dry oats 1/2 banana 2/3 c frozen fruit (raspberries, strawberries, ... whatever) 1/2 to 1 c skim milk/almond milk/water... adjust for your desired consistency sometimes I add a tsp brown sugar, syrup or other sweetener, vanilla, spinach, anything that I have on hand. Dry oats in a smoothie will make it quite thick. |
