| Binge or Delicious Indulgence???? HELP! | ||
| Jul 18 2008 02:19 | ||
O.k., I'll admit the past couple of months haven't been the best for me, I've stayed around the same weight (and have become quite frustrated by it. ) Throughout the couple of months I've had a few indulgences (on workout days, which doesn't justify it!) Anyways I had this super bad craving for ketchup chips and mini donuts tonight, and well I'm going to have some. I figure its going to be about 900 calories UGH!!! should I be so worried about this, or just do it get it over with, and August 1 (when the move is over and everything is back to "normal", worry about my calorie-counting/diet again strictly) Or shoud I just suck it up and deal with the stupid craving hahaha... Please help me! thanks :) |

It isn't really a binge. You've planned it out.. you've recognised that you're indulging, and you know that it won't totally kill your diet. |

I agree with absterry. You will always have cravings. Give in...a little. Divide them into 1/3s and then eat them over three days, and maybe just take a little walk to feel better about eating them. It's important to think of what you're doing as being something you can live with forever. You don't want to NEVER have those chips and donuts again! You have to figure out a way to fit them in. LOL. That said, I had two Skinny Cows tonight because I'm under my calorie goal due to my MMA and Kickboxing class. It just seems too good to be true that I can eat two of them and still lose weight. I just hope I'm not over estimating the calories I burn during class. |

For me usually a few bites of what ever the craving is will do. I don't need heaping piles of it. |

I would suggest fixing a very small portion of whatever it is that you are wanting and "ration" it out to yourself with the knowledge that you plan on eating all of it and you don't want to overdo it. Probably the best advice I can give for this situation is to add a workout on top of your regular workout that covers the calories that you are eating in your indulgence. ...You know that you're craving something. You know that it doesn't fit in with a healthy diet. One "cheat" is not going to ruin your diet, but it can definitely lead you towards a trend if you find yourself a little less than capable of shunning your favorite indulgences. ...Specifically measure it out to be a certain amount of calories (say....500), and work in a 500 calorie workout sometime during the day (about half an hour on an elliptical for myself...not sure what it would be for you) ....then, the only thing your indulgence is providing is a little bit of an insulin spike and whatever other bad things are in it (fats, sugars, etc) ...but the calories are ACCOUNTED FOR. Using this method allows you to fit any of your favorite foods into your diet. I've eaten a pint of Ben & Jerry's every other day for the past week and I can tell you right now that it won't affect me a single bit because they have been planned for. Kroger had a sale on New York Super Fudge Chunk, Half Baked, Peanut Butter Cup, & Willy Nelson's Country Peach Cobbler so I've gotten up at 5 in the morning every day this week and accounted for the calories. So I get to eat what I want without it affecting me much absolutely GUILT FREE...it'll probably bump my body fat percentage a little and it's probably temporarily thrown my blood sugar out of whack, but it's not like I'm going to keep this up any more (after today, actually) I'm in pretty good shape, so I can burn about 1300 calories in an hour....figure up your standard "burn rate" (let's spitball it at 800) ...If you are really feeling like you want to eat something really "off the reservation" one day, plan for it. Figure up the portion size that matches the Calories that you are willing to add as an "extra burn" but don't cheat yourself. You might just find that you won't have to feel guilty about eating something extra ever again |

Meaggang... The entire process of food is really like everything else in life! You can have whatever and do whatever you want...HERE IT COMES - - - BUT - - - there are always consequences to pay. When I am taking what I call a fitness break moderation is KEY! Everyone needs a fitness break, however, understand that everyone also needs goals that are reachable! I went from 210lbs to 130lbs and took a long break. Gained back to 155 and now have been really in the best shape ever from a practical eating lifestyle. It does help that my husband is a body builder and I have to feed him and during that time feed myself 1/4 of what he eats! ASK yourself what your goals are? What do you want to do with your body? What is your motivation? Why are you wanting to lose weight? Once you align yourself in the position that you are doing this for YOU and NOONE ELSE and you are wanting to be healthy and FIT for life - you will be on the right mission! THEN...follow a program consistently - reward yourself with ONE cheat meal a week - NOT A CHEAT DAY and then of course if you see something you have to JUST HAVE OR life is miserable than do it moderation and as Alan Bates above said - BURN IT AT FAST AS YOU CAN! Best of luck to you and I will help all I can - I am new here! |
