fair play........ u tuk the initiave. i commend u on startn the ball rolling
it is harder than it seems isn it. this is good that u realise it tho. coz while u didn u were totally in denial about whats happening for u. dont keep knockn ur self. 2 days is 2 days more than u had 2 days ago! the key to all these obsessive destructive behaviors is gud distractions when u feel the urges. also clearing the house of all those things like ipecac etc. get rid of em. if theyr not there then u cant use em on anothr note. u still have to get ur cals up to 1200. cutting laxitives does not mean replacing it with zero food |

When i decided to recover it took me awhile, but I jumped from 300 calories to 1200 overnight, and the first week i already had more energy (I even lost more weight than previous weeks), my body really appreciated it. In order to be healthy you'll have to make some decisions, and some risks, you really don't want to, but think of the physical and emotional benefits that will arise. Two days? That is impressive. I can't say that I've kicked the habit, but I made it twelve days without any sort of purging behavior is my record, and I intend on beating that. I agree, get up to 1200 calories. If you exercise, your body NEEDS more than that. High calorie foods are fine, especially if they are healthy and contain your essential nutrients. Your body needs vitamins and minerals it's been deprived of. Find a distraction that works for you; reading, walking, music...I clean a lot and play the piano. Have you thought about therapy? or something along those lines to figure out why you do this and deal with those issues to prevent relapse? I know that's worked for lots of sufferers. Take care. =) |

Thank you, and yes, I went to a therapist today, actually. But they said I didn't have Bulimia or anorexia, but I had an EDNO 9i'm too big to be an Anorexic and haven't missed any menses, and I don't binge before I purge, go figure) The problem is that I think I may be too distracted, by the time I realise I'm under calories it's already 8 or nine at night. |

"Quoted text has been previously moderated and therefore cannot be displayed." Those voices are the ones you really have to just tell to pipe down. It might seem too high in your head, but that's just the thing - it's in your head, while physically your body needs at least 1200 just to work efficiently. Are you able to organise a meeting with an nutritionist, perhaps? The therapist might be able to refer you to one. |

A good tip is to plan your day out.... make a schedule. If you have a structure to work to and you've created it, it's very self-affirming and positive. Deliberately plan in some high-cal low-bulk foods and it becomes much easier to eat more without experiencing that 'uncomfortably full' feeling that you're probably trying to avoid. Nuts, for example are an impressive 150cals for just an ounce. They contain excellent protein, fibre and vitamin E. Avocados are another great food. Taste great and they're full of vitamins and minerals. A medium-size one is about 300 cals. Eating frequently is another good tip. A meal or a light snack every couple of hours is a great way to rebuild your appetite. You don't allow youself to get too hungry and, again, you're not sitting down to huge platefuls at any one time. If you plan your day in advance, eating frequently and choosing those energy-dense foods it'll mean you're more likely to get it all in before 8pm. You'll also feel in control rather than at the mercy of events. 1200 is just a starting point, of course. The average 18 year-old needs more like 2000 cals a day to be fit and well. Well done making it through 2 days. Every day that passes is a victory. And if you slip up... which happens from time to time... don't think you've 'blown it', just carry on where you left off. As you progress the slip-ups will get further and further apart and it'll become easier and easier. Best of luck. |

You're aware that abusing laxatives isn't even effective right? The laxatives clear waste from the bottom of the colon, which at that point is 99.9% fiber and undigestible waste anyway. All of the digestion and calorie absorption has already occurred. It may help you to kick the habit if you keep reminding yourself that it really does nothing anyway. |
