I don't smoke cigarettes, I'm trying to stop biting my nails, and I can't chew gum. Sometimes I just need something to do like that BUT I also don't want to replace those hobbies with eating without being hungry. What else do you guys do?
I've had a hard time with biting my nails too. I started crocheting, playing videogames, doing yard work and cleaning the bathtub. When my hands are dirty, I'm not even TEMPTED to bite my nails.
There are these tooth picks that are steeped in tea tree oils that my friend is currently using to stop smoking. You can find them at health food stores and they taste pleasant but not like something you'd want to chew on so it won't harm your teeth.
Woops double post!
learn to knit! It's just what keeps my hands busy...or learn to play an instrument, if you're game for all that. I adore just keeping myself busy...from one fellow nail biter to another :-)
Mine were so long this summer! Well, until they were too long to play the violin, 'cause then I had to cut them again :-(
I'm weriod with my nails. If there's one little bit of an edge I can feel I have to pick at it and bite it. I've started having nail files near me at all times (one in each room) and file them instead of biting.
you used to be able to get a product that you dip your fingers in and it makes them taste bitter and disgusting for the rest of the day. i used it when i was really young to stop sucking my thumb. there is no way you will want your fingers in your mouth when they taste so bitter. so have a look for something like that.. if you can't find anything nail varnish remover probably does a similar job although it won't be as strong/long lasting.
I have been bitting my nails since I was like 4 yrs old. My aunt always reminds me she always had a hard time with me. Twice that I been pregnant I stop bitting them, they grossed me out. but after I had my babies my habit was back again. I am not sure how I did it. But I commited myself that I was not going to bite my nails again. & just did it. I think I am just to busy & keep my hands full w/my kids, work, exercising, that I just dont remember to bite them. Its hard b/c I had tried to stop biting before & didnt go anywhere. Do it for yourself they actully look healthier & nicer when you dont bite them. Wish you Luck!!
