| Diet in the sense of what to eat not restricting kind, I'm not trying to lose weight for the time being :) But my problem is I have 2 horses and now I've broken up from school I'm riding for 3-4 hours a day as well as general yard duties and my poor body is threatening to give up on me. Sooo want to add in healthy things to my diet which will help give more energy. What do you think? |

I you need more energy the best place to get it is from complex carbohydrates. That's things like wholemeal bread, pasta, rice, noodles, potatoes, cereals, other grains. They're best for giving you sustained long-term energy. Next up are things like fruit... energy-dense, sweeter fruits will give you a short-term pick me up... bananas, mango, grapes, dried fruit. Protein is also useful and getting plenty of meat, fish, eggs, beans and other proteins will boost your iron stores which can help you feel less washed-out. If you're very energetic you will need to consume a lot of calories during the day. The averagely active woman might get through 2000 cals a day. Someone working hard for hours is going to need 2500 - 3000. Rather than calorie-counting, however, just eat when you're hungry, eat good food and don't skimp. Start the day with a very hearty breakfast... oatmeal, eggs, toast, for example... and make sure you take along plenty of good quality energy-dense snacks to keep you going while you're working. Fruit, dried fruit, nuts, cereal bars. |
