| Wraps for Lunch | ||

| I'm sick of paying $6 for a wrap for lunch.... so I think I'll start making & bringing my own! However I'm a bit skeptical about a few things:
-wont the wrap get all SOGGY if I prepare it hours earlier (or even the night before) with the sauce? I love barbecue sauce! -I'm thinking of getting the Weight Watchers tortilla wraps - has anyone tried these? They around 7" flat I think. Normally the wraps I eat are 10-12", so this would a good calorie reduction. I think I just might have a hard time fitting everything in the wrap, I tend to overstuff! Anyone else do this as well? And if I was just making a wrap for lunch at home... what are some good ways to HEAT it up? I know I can heat up the filling... wish I had a panini or george foreman grill or something to heat up the entire wrap! I doubt toaster would work very well... Thanks! :) |

| I'm no help on the second two questions, but in regards to the first, why not just take the incredients in seperate containers and assemble the wrap when lunch time comes around--that way nothing gets soggy during the day. | ||

When I took wraps for lunch, I would put all the ingredients on the tortilla first, and then put the sauce in the middle so it never came in contact with the tortilla. It worked well for me =) Don't know on the other 2 =\ Sorry! |

I agree with deflepfan16 on the sauce part, thats what I do with mine!. Ive found that if I put sauces on first and then eat it an hour or so later when I can its soggy. But if I put in on inbetween everything the wrap stays fine.
As for warming it up you could wrap the wrap [haha] in tin foil and pop it in the oven for a few minutes to get it toasty maybe?

Have you tried whole wheat pitas? It might be easier to assemble at work. |

I bring a wrap or pita almost everyday. I bring a lunch box and keep the wrap or pita separate and put my ingredients in a tupperware container and make it at lunch. I use Josephs heart friendly oat and whole wheat pita's (60) calories or Flat Out original wheat wrapt (90) calories. I fill them with tuna, chicken, turkey, egg beaters, boca burgers, black beans and always tons of fresh veggies. I also bake a sweet potato and steam different veggies like carrots, zucchini, squash, mushrooms and cut those up in a bowl as a side dish. I mix the sweet potato with all of the other veggies and spice it with chili pepper, onion power, garlic powder whatever and sometimes use hot sauce, mustard or green taco sauce in the wrap. Jalepanio and habenaro peppers are also really good and hot peppers speed the metabolism. I make a bunch of stuff on Sunday and then put it in tupperware for the next few days. Fruit salad is also good to bring. Fresh fruit cut up. If you are getting the subway wrap you might check out their web site on the calorie content and the nutritional content of their wraps. They changed wraps recently from low carb whole wheat to flour tortillas filled with calories. A turkey wrap has more calories that one of their subs. I quit eating them for that reason. |

I love making my own wraps! I usually just assemble the wrap in the morning and then bring a little tupperware container with sauce to dip in...I like ranch dressing on mine. I also agree that mission tortillas are a great way to go. I especially like the carb counter ones, thry are not that bad for you and they taste really good. For when you are at home you can always heat your tortilla (and if you put any cheese on it you could already have that on it) for a few seconds in the microwave to soften the tortilla so it folds better. |

Here is a little tip on heating tortillas. When I was little I lived in the Mohave desert and my step mother was from Mexico and cooked all kinds of authentic Mexican food. She always heated the tortilla's on the gas stove. She turned the burner on low and layed the tortilla on top of the flame. Just for a few seconds. Cannot walk away. Flip it when it is toasted lightly and brown the other side and then fill it and wrap it right away, because after you toast it it becomes a little hard to wrap if you let it sit. It gives the tortilla a really good toasted taste. I do this all the time when making taco's and burritos. |

If there is any moisture in your fillings it will make the wrap a little soggy, so if you can everyone's advice to take filling separate is a good idea. Or, just make the wrap as you'd like it and pop it in a toaster over when you want to eat it. It will help dry out the bread and take the chill from the fridge off the insides. Also I love hummus wraps with alfalfa sprouts, carrot, green onion...yum! |

They'll last a week or more in the refrigerator. If you don't want them every day for lunch, eat them for breakfast on some days - great with some scrambled eggs/whites a little cheese and salsa. |

Original Post by jodiferjuniper: Hehe. I made this mistake this morning. I didn't think about it at all, and it totally fell apart. That's ok, it was still really tasty. Next time I'm going to pack them seperately. |

Those Weight Watchers pitas will definitely fall apart if you overstuff (which isn't hard because they're really small).
On Monday, I brought a chicken pita in a rectangular plastic container. I kept all the fixings separate so I could heat the chicken on its own, add my spread to the pita, then add chicken & top with baby spinach. Bottom line: I assemble it when it's time to eat it but pack all components together. |

I bought the large tortilla wraps today. And tried to make a wrap. It started cracking and all fell apart on me :(
Any tips/tricks?? Should I microwave them beforehand? Do you guys just roll it up or actually try and 'wrap' it like how they do at Subway? |

It should not fall apart. Sounds like it is stale. What kind did you buy. I have bought some brands that fell apart easily. Yes I wrap them. I put the ingredients on at one end. Spread it out lengthwise turn each end in and then wrap it up. You can microwave them or heat them over an open flame. |
