3 months pregnant...Is it too late to resume working out now?

Well I did the complete opposite of what I always said I would do if I ever got pregnant. I was a workout fiend until I got pregnant. Ever since then I've been exhausted. I haven't worked out at all and I feel like a slob. I'm getting flabby, I'm losing the tone I worked so hard for in my thighs and butt. My once plumper, rounder butt is pretty much gone. I was started to like my butt for a change. I'm wondering now since I'm at 13 weeks and I think I've gotten rid of my awful headaches, can I now start to work out again. I read that I'm supposed to be getting my energy back and I can tell somewhat. I don't pass out right after I get off work anymore and I don't pass out at 9 pm, when I'm used to staying up to 12 or 1 am. Has anyone else not kept their committment of working out when they got pregnant. I also have not been eating the best either but I want to change that in my 2nd trimester. It's already hard taking care care of a growing baby inside me and the baby is not even born yet!

Hi, I am a personal trainer, not a doctor, so here is my educated opinion. You are fine to workout during pregnancy if you have been doing so before becoming pregnant. In your instance, you have been out about 3 mos. so I would say it is safe to begin working out, but definately not at the level you were pre-pregnancy. Take it slow and know that any activity will help you stay healthy and return to pre-baby shape once the baby is born. I have 3 boys and worked out during my pregnancies.  But of course, you should get your doctor's advice Smile I too had very low energy during the first trimester, and you should definately listen to your body, since it is putting so much energy into developing that baby! You will notice a definate change in the second trimester, so get active while you can! The third trimester it won't be quite as easy to exercise. Just be cautious and wise about the exercise you choose to do. Nothing with risk of falling, lifting heavy weights, etc. Hope this helps!

I have had two babies, and I tried to work out throughout my pregnancies, but dude, it was hard for me! I recommend water aerobics or prenatal yoga. You'll get a good workout, but won't risk straining, tearing, or injuring any tendons and ligaments. Just remember, all your tendons and ligaments are going to be loosening, so take it easy on them.

Also, your balace is going to be WAY off because of your belly, so try and stay a way from any balancing or step classes until you get used to it.

CONGRADULATIONS!!

I had the same experience with my third and fourth pregnancies. At the beginning I was too exhausted to even think about working out so I got back on my elliptical trainer somewhere between 20-25 weeks (way late!). With my fourth, I started slow and worked my way up and I was still working out the day before I delivered. So it is possible, just do what you can and don't push yourself.
