I have never been one to sleep in excess, but lately I have been sleeping up to sixteen hours a day. Mono isn't a possibility, my eating is in order, and I'm not on any medication. Ideas?
maybe ur anemic?
How are you so sure it isn't mono? Have you been tested? I would see a doctor.
There are a lot of things which can cause oversleeping of that level. I know, because I've had the same problems! Chronic fatigue, thyroid problems, anemia, viral illnesses that don't otherwise have symptoms, overexercising, excessive dieting, depression, binge eating behaviors, diabetes... all of these could be a cause. A doctor would be the best way to get help.
I'm actually going to the doctor about this very issue tomorrow. It is impossible for me to feel awake unless I get at least 9 hours of sleep (12 is my ideal). That's just not realistic. I, unfortunately, have always been this way. I used to attribute it to my lack of phyical activity and poor diet; but now everything is in order. I should be more awake!
How long have you been feeling like this? Have you tried simple things like going to bed and waking up at the same time each day? cutting out caffeine? drinking enough water?
I've been tested for just about everything under the sun for some health problems I've been having (including my thyroid). I was also tested for mono a few months ago when my sister had it. I'll look into the iron deficiency thing.
I've been feeling this way for a little over a week now.
Just because you tested negative for mono a month ago doesn't mean you didn't catch it between then and now.
I have bad insomnia that keeps me up for nights on end and then I got weeks where I can't sleep enough. I got a blood test and low iron was the culprit. The doc actually put me on pre-natal vitamins to get my iron and folic acid intake up... it worked wonders for the month I was on them, but unfortunately they cost too much money for me to take the other two months I was prescribed.
it is possible to have the virus that causes mono to lie dormant in your system and then "out of nowhere" flare up.
another thing to be tested for is Lyme Disease as one of the main and most common symptoms is fatigue. the iron deficiency is definitely something to check out too!!
Are you eating enough protein? How many hours do you work out each day/ week?
