cooking snow imitation crabmeat for sushi yrpaine1
  Jul 08 2008 21:20
i want to make sushi sometime in the next 2 days (before the crabmeat expires) and it requires cooked snow crabmeat or imitation crabsticks. I only found snow imitation crabmeat so I guess that'll work. problem is, I don't know how to cook it. can anyone tell me how?

btw, i can't cook in general so please dont say anything too complicated :D

oh, and does anyone know where I can find sushi nori (i think it's dried seaweed)?

ok. thanks!

for the nori, do you have oriental markets around you? also, are there any sushi restuarants near by? you could possibly go and ask to buy some of their nori from them.

as for the crabmeat, doesn't it say how to cook it on the package?

it gives two recipes but for something else, not just cooking crabmeat. and there aren't any sushi restaurants or oriental markets nearby :( . I'm assuming a big market chain or something can have it but im not sure where to look

is the crabmeat white with a red skin-like kinda thing on top? if so; i just googled "how to cook imitation crabmeat" and apparently it's already cooked (i've checked 3 different websites now). you can just heat it up or eat it cold.

as for the nori, do you know anybody that lives nearer to an oriental market than you do? you could ask them to pick up some for you. or also, maybe google it and find a site where you could order it online?

i'm not a big sushi eater, sorry i haven't been much help. :(

You don't have to cook imitation crab meat.  You eat it as-is.

you can heat it if you need to, like if you're putting it in a stir fry or something.  But I typically eat it straight out of the bag.  mmmmm fake crab...

i just checked and it is white with red, but in the little warning thing at the bottom it says "cook thoroughly". and the sushi recipe asks for "cooked snow crab meat". but if it's imitation...oh i don't know. thanks though!

I've never cooked imitation crab. That's odd that it says to cook thoroughy. Anyway, our Walmart Supercenter carries nori if you have one of those nearby.

don't know about the crab meat but I find my nori in my local super market. In the international food section. Mine is between the taco(mexican) stuff and the Indian curry stuff
