LOL--Sometimes I am SOOOOO wrong

Quote  |  Reply

I'm usually pretty good with estimations for foods and being able to determine whether something is relatively healthy or not.  Well tihs weekend I went to a wedding and got prime rib.  I was thinking to myself "it can't be that much worse than a regular steak." Um, yes it can.  I just decided to look it up out of boredom and found it was most likely over 1000 calories just for the prime rib alone.

I'm not posting this because I care that I ate it because I don't.   It was delicious and I'd eat it even knowing how terribly high in calories & fat it is.  Just posting it because it found it very amusing how wrong I was.

Any  else have any stories about foods they thought couldn't be that bad and then found out they were very wrong?

when i first started dieting, i thought croissants were healthy choices.

how wrong i was.

erica.. ha ha me too!  and bagles.. you might as well have a McMuffin!  Crazy how off I was!

I always thought muffins were healthy until I started actually learning about calories & nutrition.

I think bagels are healthy - I think it's a matter of portion sizing - if you have 1/2 it's alright.    Trail Mix - over 700 calories for 2/3 of a cup!  Unless I am hiking, I will never eat it again!!
I read in "No Flour,No Sugar" that eating straight veggies{little fruit because of sugar content} is a sure fire to loosing weight especially the stomach region.  It's really hard to do,but the results are well earned.

Prime Rib is that bad eh? Probably because its so good!!!

All the good cuts are high in cal because they have that marble-like fat throughout that gives them the tender flavor!

yeah, trail mix is a killer!
Its marketed to make you think its sooo healthy... And the serving size, pshhhh, tiny!!  it makes a snack more calorie and fat packed than a meal!!!

It is healthy - if you buy the right kinds.  The chex mix ones, for instance, of course aren't going to give you very much nutritional content, but the mixed dried fruit and nuts without additives are actually quite healthy...although you're right, they are high in calories and fats (though the good kinds =])

I have a good one.  I used to buy popcorn with no butter at the movies, thinking it was healthier then eating chocolate bars.

Well, the other day we were going to the movies so I thought I'd look up the calories content.  I found out that since they pop the kernals in oil, a med bag of popcorn has more fat in it then 6 BIG MACS!  I don't remember the exact number, but I think a large bag has something like 1600 calories in it!

Now I pop my own and sneak it in along with a bottle of water in my big purse lol.

Edit: I looked up one of the links I had found and thought I'd include it http://www.anderson.edu/wellness/facts.html

 That is so devastating.

Haha wowwww...wish I never read that!!  Looks like I'll be sneaking in my own snacks from now on.

WHAT?!  Oh jeez. That's my bad news of the day.

That news has obviously destroyed the movie popcorn experience for more than a few people on here I'm sure! No more movie popcorn *tear*.

But by sneaking in your own.....think about the money you're saving!  That movie popcorn is outrageously priced!

WOW! I knew popcorn was bad at theaters even without the butter, but I had NO CLUE it was THAT bad.

haha. popcorn killed me too. I thought i was ok one of the days that i was dieting, except that i had about half a bag of movie popcorn for dinner (which i thought would be about 400cals MAX). I nearly died when i found out that it was actually about 1000 calories. >"< not to mention the soda. Nowadays i buy wasabi green peas from the snack bar instead. It's much less in portion, and a little calorie dense (nearly 150cals for the 30g pack), but it lasts so long cause you get that spicy taste hitting your nose every single pea that you pop that you need a 10 second breather between each one. :3

Doh! I bought popcorn on Friday night at the movies. (and ate the whole bag myself...)

We go out to the movies once or twice a year, though, so I'll consider it a very rare treat Wink
