Motivation Needed Here!! butterfly4kathy2
  Jul 08 2008 14:44

Hello everyone,

I am pretty new here (this is my second time around)

I have decided that I really need to get serious about this. I have some bad habits that I need to break when it comes to eating. I tend to eat when I am bored. UGH!

Anyway, I started this pretty seriously last night (again) and I felt pretty good about staying within my calories. But for some reason is doesnt feel like enough. I exercise (either walking the dog or at the gym) 5 days a week but...

I just feel like this isnt going to work

For some reason things like this have never really worked

So, I would love to hear some stories.

Did you feel this way when you started too?

I feel like this everytime I start. I got up to 266 but lost 40 then put back on 25 after my dad died. I am working on taking it off again. But if you get discouraged - just remember that each day is a new one. If you fall off the wagon, just get back on the next day. And remember that it will pay off in the long run. I have sore knees and feet due to excess weight. Doctor told me if I don't get it off, I will need a knee replacement. Surgery??? UGH. So I am working on it again. Am trying to get the motivation to walk everyday. So hang in there - if I can do it, so can you.

Thank you SO much for the encouragement!

You have NO idea how much it helps. Just seems like when you don't feel a change daily, its not working. I guess that is because I am impatient Hahaha

That is something I will need to work on too.

I wish you luck in your journey as well. Thanks again for the reply!

dont quit, dont quit, huff huff, dont quit, dont quit, you can do it, pant, pant.....

that's what i told myself the other day during a work out, and before i knew it, the work out was done! then i did the crunches (i hate crunches)

take each day one at a time, like you eat a salad, one healthy bite at a time. (hint, when it's time for desert either a: run the other way or b: reach for the low cal fruit)

this is my second time around too, last year i lost 30lbs, gained 10 back, so i'm back to lose another 30. We can do it!   Cool

I wanted to quit so many times when I started but my husband kept pushing me and telling me I could do it. I took 3 months before the weight started coming off and 2.5 years latter I am down 100 pounds. I did it very slow but hopefully that means it will stay off. Just keep telling yourself you can do it, and you will. My hardest thing to get over was the bad attitude, saying I can't do this, it's too much weight theres no way I can lose that much. It's all BULL, you can do it if you want it bad enough.

Good Luck.

I was somoene who had try to lose weight and didnt last more than 5 days.  Now i been losing weight for 6 months (i know its not mush) but i had lost 60 pds and need to lose around 25 more.

Im surprised that i havent struggle like i did the others time.  This are the stuff i had done differently this time:

1) When i went to sleep, i was thinking of how awesome it would be if i lose the weight.  I imagine myself at that weight. I know it wasnt gonna happen from 1 day to another but keeping this in mind helped me.

2) I research..  I look for all the information i could get..  I start loggin calories (i stopped loggin calories a month ago cause i didnt wanted to be a slave to it like i was, but im still losing weight.)  Now i got an idea of what i should be eating and which portions.

3) I have fun with it.  I look for new recipes everytime i could.  During my diet i had have homemade pizzas for breakfast, or mexican pizzas for dinner.  But i made them myself on wheat breads or tortillas, full of fibers and full of veggies!..  Im still eating my favorite foods, just with a twist and healthier and equally delicious.

4) Try new things..  Everytime i go to supermarket i try bringin at least 1 new item.. Sometimes i dont like them, sometimes they are awesome (like cottage cheese)..

5) Eat snacks.. i eat every 2 hours..  1 of my snacks is always a bowl of fruits (Apples, Pearls, Kiwis, Watermelons whatever i have).. Another snack i try to have a citric food on it (helps having an orange tree on my backyard =D).

Dont give up... And dont get fustrated, is a slow and steady ride to lose weight, but enjoy every minute of it.. I think im gonna miss when i finally reach my weight and people get use to the new me (and no more jaw droppings faces).

Before I say anything I MUST congratulate tammy_180 on the 101lb lost.  THAT IS GREAT!

I only have 15 to 20lbs to lose and I am not doing so well.  I have been trying since January and this is my third of fourth time back here (caloiecount.about.com).  In between I have joined weigh watchers and la weights lose. I have not been unable to stick with anything.

Weight lose has never been a problem for me in the past so I am very frustrated now!

So butterflyforkathey2 maybe we can motivate each other!

Good luck and hang in there.  After all I am sure its worth it in the end…right tammy_180

Thank you ttmckoy73, and yes it is very worth all the ups and downs to get to where you want to be. It makes you a stronger person in the end too.  Just stick with it you can do anything you set your mind to.

I get discouraged quite a bit, and then lapse into old bad habits... and then start over.

Just remember to keep your eye on the prize - I find that keeping my journal stock full of good news and keeping people up to date keeps me accountable, and that's helped so much more!

Good luck, and anytime you need to chat, feel free to add me as a friend.

I know I kind of feel the same way.  I started this about 4 weeks ago.  I admit that it has been a little sporatic, especially the dieting part.  I love food, and i have a serious sweet tooth that has been very hard to ignore, but I have been eating a lot better and excercising, and I may have lost 1 pound.  that is very frustrating.  part of it is the scales--two different doctor's offices, the gym, and the scales in my bathroom.  All are different.  So, I have decided to go by the way my clothes fit.

i know i need to be more regular about the exercising part.  I am trying to find a job, and taking care of my house and yard by myself--my husband is working out of the country and he only gets home twice a year.  So, my exercise gets interrupted by yard work and house work some times.  Mostly this can be fixed by being more organized.  But the terrible case of poison ivy I got a week ago really messed up my exercise plans.  i am hoping to go back to the gym for a good work out tomorrow.  The steroid shot and pills have finally kicked in and started drying up the rash and really easing the itching.

I need motivation too, and I am hoping this site will help.

Feel free to ad me to your friend list.  Good Luck

I have to constantly remind myself that I am doing good.  I am usually not doing as well as I would like to be, or the scale isn't giving me very nice feedback, but that doesn't mean that I am not doing good or that I won't reach my goal weight someday.

You don't have to have perfect effort in order to get the weight off . . . just write down each of your bad habits and work on them one by one and reward yourself often.

You can do it!!
