| Eating more calories to lose more weight.... | ||
| Jul 08 2008 13:40 | ||
So CC calculates that I need to eat 1450cal/day to reach my goal weight - I am working out with a personal trainer twice a week and some walking every day. I keep reading on here people upping their cal's to lose weight. Right now I am 180lbs.
Does that only apply to people who are close/near their goal weight or at a plateau or does that apply to everyone? I'm really committed to doing this right this time.... so want to make sure I am eating right (and losing the weight) because then I will see results and stick with the program instead of getting discouraged.
TIA

1400-1500 cals is the perfect level for you to lose a steady 1 - 2lbs a week. Because it's not too low you should be able to go for quite a long time before you experience a plateau, if at all. It's only people that have been dieting for months on end or do very restrictive crash diets that hit problems normally. (The crash dieters always get advised to 'eat more' because they're just relying on starvation to lose weight... and that isn't healthy or effective long-term) To keep your metabolism lively keep up with the exercise, get plenty of fluids and split your food into regular light meals and healthy snacks. And I would strongly recommend that every two or three weeks you have a 'more food than normal' day... just 1900 cals or so... to a) keep you sane and b) prevent your body getting too used to the same amount of food. Have fun and keep smiling. |

Thanks! I love your advice - you have replied to a few of my posts - always very clear and easy to understand. :)
I am eating 5 small meals a day and staying right on track. I LOVE how my body feels only after one week of this (I'm down 3.5lbs)
Go me |

Loving the way you feel, enjoying what you're eating and the exercise you're doing is really important. When you're happy doing something you need very little motivation to keep doing it.... and then you get to the stage where it becomes second nature and no effort. Enjoy your new healthy lifestyle, keep it interesting and the weight-loss will become a happy side-effect.
Go you! |

I recently learned that one should eat something before 8pm,after dinner...so that your metabolism keeps on working.It is working for me so far.I eat something like low fat yoghurt 200ml about 100kcal.Good luck:) |

I eat 1400-1500 cals/day and I exercise to burn about 300 cals and I lose close to 2 lbs/week. Sometimes a little more, or a little less. All depends, I guess, on what my body wants to do. I also eat yogurt (100 cals) at 8 pm to keep the old metabolism working thru the night. I don't know if it really works like that though. But I like the snack!
