| I need some wisdom about one drastic day, please! | ||
| Jul 07 2008 16:39 | ||
LA Weightloss promotes a 2-day "Take-off" to jump-start weightloss. It can be done once every two weeks and requires that you consume approximately 735 calories for each of those two days. Although such a reduction in calories isn't wise in the long run, I'm wondering if it would be alright for me to do it - even for just one day to sort of get things going again? |

Personally I don't see a point in it. I've never done LA weight loss, but I have lost 175 pounds. There was no need to 'kick start' anything, I just stuck with my 500 calorie deficit and lost weight gradually. Just my opinion though. |

You know, that's a good point. Anyone else with some wise words? |

I don't see much harm in it ... but frankly, no good in it, either. Dropping calories by 465 (assuming a 1200 norml) for two days out of 14, will decrease your daily average during those two weeks by a grand total of 66 calories. Why the heck put yourself through two very restrictive days for a net decrease of 66 per day? If the idea of an occasional lower cal day appeals to you, then try zig-zagging your calories throughout the week. I'd avoid doing two very low days consecutively, however. |

Thanks so much for your input. I've put some thought into it, and decided to do exactly that - zig zag my calories. |

My weight zigzagged for several years, but I've now lost 55 pounds and have so far kept it off for almost a year -- in my experience (with both successes and not-so's), the faster you drop the weight, the more likely you will gain it back. Having a 200-300 calorie deficit (i.e. you burn about 300 calories a day more than you consume), allows consistent results that are good for your body and easier to sustain long term. Good Luck! |

The only reason I could see for suddenly eating so little for a few days was if you think you need to try and shrink your stomach a bit because you've been eating too much, or your calories have been creeping up too far and your body has come to expect it. If you've been dieting all along there's not a lot of point. |
