Anyone got 40lbs to lose???

Quote  |  Reply
Hi Everyone.  I am looking for some motivation. I've lost and gained weight in the past - granted I didn't always lose it the "correct" way.  I am motivated again to get rid of this weight once and for all.  I'm a 5'3 female, 160lbs and I would like to get to 120lbs.  This is the weight at which I feel most comfortable.  One of my other goals is to get back into running again and run long distance like I used to.  I know I can do it, as I've done it before, I just want to communicate with someone who is in the same boat.   It would also be great if you want to get into running and possibly running some races in NYC in the fall.  I used to run with my boyfriend, but he's out of comission due to surgery on his achilles tendon.

Guess I'm all alone.

Wow Kate this sounds exactly like me! Exactly! I'm getting back into running now. I'm at 198 and need to get down to 153 in order to be healthy. On Sat. I was telling my wife how 40 pounds seems so incredibly daunting. I don't think I've ever lost that much weight at one time. So now I force myself out of bed to go cross country running in the morning with the dogs at like 5:30 a.m. Due to the day, it's the only real chance I'll get to exercise. Plus I've had to seriously reroute my entire diet. No more pork, chicken, etc. unless it's Fish. And then it must be baked. So no, you're not in this alone by a long shot. I'll actually be moving to NYC early next year. Maybe we can trade info on running races. I don't think there's a lot of those here in Upstate NY. Or if so, I'm not aware!

So  no, you're not alone. Not by a longshot.

Why can't you have chicken or pork?  If its lean its OK - or is it a dietary issue?

How long distance wise are you running?  I'm just trying to get back into it now.  Where upstate are you?  There are tons of races down this way - a bunch in central park year round.

I usually try to lose the weight too fast and its worked in the past - but I can't keep it off - then I get depressed and binge it all back.

Hey there. I'm looking to lose about 40-45 pounds as well. I'm 5'5.5" and currently hovering around 185. I'd like to get to 140-145.

And what an amazing coincidence! I'll also be moving to NYC in the fall. For college. :D

That is a coincidence!!!  What college will you be going to?  I am not in NYC, but I live in CT about 30 miles away from the city.  My goal is to lose this weight by December 20th - which is much less aggressive than what I've done in the past.  I know it can be done.  It works out to about 7lbs a month - I used to lose like 15lbs a month LOL.  I am at 160 now going to 120 - for me, the first 20lbs come off fairly quickly.

I am currently 161 @ 5'4", down from 169 since May 28, 2008--Would love to get down to around 120, but for now I am making my goal 135, then I will go from there LOL! I've been walking/jogging around and hour everyday, and that has really helped to motivate my eating.  You think more of what you put in your mouth if you've just spent and hur burning 320 calories! I am over anxious to get the weight off also.  I've lost it fast in the past, and put it all back on.  This time I am trying it slow.  Good Luck!

I'll be going to Columbia University. Move-in's in late August. Hopefully I'll have dropped about 10 pounds by then. :D

Victorechka - what is your nationality?  Just wondering.  Columbia is great.  Maybe we can email each other or something to keep us all going.  40lbs sounds daunting, but I think its really the first 10 that are the hardest, after that, you see results, you get in better shape and it gets easier.

I have about 45 lbs to lose.

I wind up frying most Pork / Chicken that I get and that's not really the healthiest way to eat it. I don't really enjoy the taste any other way. So that's why I'm sticking to mostly seafood for the time being. I tend to bake most of those that I get and I love the taste! I'm trying to stop frying foods and if I get chicken / pork, that's just what I'll wind up doing so it's just easier if I opt not to do that.

Currently I live in Syracuse. I'm just now getting into the know so I haven't heard of a lot of races here. There were 2 in June that I know of, but since then, I've not heard of anything. There's a whole community of cross country runners that I have to get in contact with.

I can usually get the weight off quick. It's trying to keep it off that is always the problem. I'll be able to get down to 150 (down from my rotund 190) in a few months. What happens is that I look and think "Ok, I'm fine now, that's it", then I go back into bad eating habits and viola, I'm back up to 200. And I never catch myself doing that until I'm that high. So this time, I'm taking it slow, keeping a food journal, and I have a set cut off time where I can't have anymore food (7:00 p.m.) Also, I'm trying to cut alcohol, too. I like Beer a lot, and fool myself into thinking that a Light Beer is okay, when it really isn't. Yeah maybe we can get together for some races in NYC a little later in the year. I've had a lifelong goal to run the Boston Marathon at least once, so my goal is to do that w/in 5 yrs. How cool would it be to run that and know I began running in NY!

I am just like you.  I lose the weight in a few months, the I get lax about it, and before I know it, 20lbs are back.  Then I get depressed and there come 20 more pounds.    The first thing for me is to definately cut the alcohol.  If I don't drink I don't really eat that much I find.  But I tend to overdo things - I drastically cut my calories, then exercise like crazy and bam! 40lbs gone in a few months.  But it doesn't stay.  I'm not sure where to go from here...??  I'm too stubborn to listen to any good advice lol.

Hey katethegreat. I have about 50 pounds to go but wouldnt mind running a marathon or preparing for it. I am with ya. BTW, im in NYC too. Nice to meet you.

Hey Auronx.  I checked your profile.  Looks like you're in Flushing.  I ran the NYC marathon in 2006.  It was awesome.  I would like to do it again - maybe next year.  The New York Road Runners also host a bunch of races during the year in Central Park and other places in the 5 boroughs.  I just want to get 20lbs off as soon as I can to make running much easier.
hey i am looking to loose around 40 pounds as well! I also have just started loving to run and i am in NYC! I dont know that i would ever be able to run a marathon though =/

Hi Kate,

I need to lose around 36 lbs.  Boy, did I really say that?  I've been on this site for about 5 weeks and have lost 6.8 lbs so far.  I can't believe how easy it's been.  I am 5'6" and want to be around 140. I'm walk/jogging 4 miles per day, and doing aerobics 3x per week.  My jogging has been going slow as I started out using crappy shoes, and now the ball of my foot is sore.  So I'm trying not to push it too hard. I have been jogging for 90 sec and walk for 60 sec intervals.  So far so good.

I live near San Francisco, so I don't think I'll be running any races in NY! lol

Jenna - we can do shorter races.  But if you ever want to do a marathon, you can do it, all it takes is some dedication.

Betsaroonie, are you doing the couch to 5K.  I want to start that next week.  I did it last year, it worked great.  I stopped running in Dec due to some injuries and other things.

Katethegreat - I wanted to start the couch to 5k but the ball of my foot is really sore.  I'm having to take it easy for a while and just walk.  I'm really concentrating on placing my heal first and not the ball of my foot.  That's what I get for starting in really old shoes.  Just didn't have time to shop for new ones, and now I'm paying the price.  When it's feeling better I'll start back trying to do the couch to 5k
