| No-egg breakfast recipes? | ||
| Jul 07 2008 14:06 | ||
I really need some breakfast recipes. I am a lover of bacon, biscuits and gravy, but despise eggs. Now that I am trying to eat better, I am at a loss. I cannot stand cereals, and have to give up the bacon and gravy. Please help. Currently, I am eating 1 cup of peaches and dry wheat toast. One more day of this, and someones gonna get hurt! (just kidding, but I am seriously frustrated). Thanks for being there. |

What about egg alternative, dairy or a nut butter (peanut butter, almond butter)? What about soy products? Do you like those? |

I love my peanut butter, but honestly haven't tried the other alternatives. |

Hi there, I like non-fat (or lowfat) cottage cheese with fruit (mandarin oranges, pears, apple sauce, blueberries, etc.). It is a great source of protein and calcium.

Probably not the best, but my breakfast is usually a protein bar or a fiber bar and a fat-free yogurt. I take it to work and it it there in the morning. You say you hate cereal .. I'm assuming that includes oatmeal? But I agree with something like a turkey patty or a sandwich, etc. You should eat something you enjoy that fits in your calories and has a bit of protein and is filling. Whatever you would look forward to eating in the morning to get your day off to a good start. |

So, I thought of another breakfast you might like. On Sundays we have a potato skillet. I just used the recipe analyzer and it turned out really great! Here is the recipe: 6 new potatoes boiled and sliced (not too soft) 250 grams Canadian bacon cubed (low fat) 1 yellow pepper (cut small) 1 red pepper (cut small) garlic (minced) 1 tbsp olive oil for frying This is 5 to 6 servings. |

You should try some of them. Some brands taste better than others and watch out on the nutrient content. For example, some soy products are fortified while others are not. Experiement a little with each one and see what you enjoy. There is a great website with recipes (with ratings!) for almost every ingredient, item you can think of. If you find one item you enjoy (peanut butter for example), you can look up recipes that go with that. They even have a healthy recipes section. That website is allrecipes.com . I promise I don't work for them. They are just really that good. |

Have you tried turkey bacon? It has a different texture than bacon, but it tastes the same to me. I'm addicted to it. |

nooooo, don't give up the bacon & gravy! haha. Ingredients: I'm also a huge fan of grits in the morning- they can be whole grain & delicious. Depending how you like yours, mix some sugar-free maple syrup in & some cinnamon/a few sprays of ICBINB/etc. Play around with it. Oatmeal's always good as well. Plus, there's some FANTASTIC turkey bacon out there. |

If you're not opposed to oatmeal, I've been making 1 cup of oatmeal in the microwave (1/3 cup oats; 3/4 cup water; nuke for 2-3 minutes) then adding 1/2 cup blueberries and nuking for 15 seconds longer. De-lish! I have a glass of milk with it to give me some protein. |

so why limit yourself to traditional "breakfast foods"? have a sandwich. Why does breakfast have to be cereal or eggs?

I really like the egg beaters not so much plain but i fix em up with onions garlic mushrooms and make an omlet. They really are delicious you should give em a try and see what you think. Sometimes depending on the season i will ad sliced zucchini or yellow squash theres a lot you can do with them. Good luck hope you find somethings you can use. Have a great day |

Are you ok with dairy products? I see you don't like cereal. Does that include granola? I'm thinking yogurt and granola with fruit. Another breakfast I like is a multigrain, low cal english muffin (100 calories), toasted, with canadian bacon or low fat ham, a slice of reduced fat cheese and a slice of tomato. |

You can have anything you like for breakfast as long as it fits into your calorie plan for the day... you could have a meat sandwich, or yoghurt and fruit, or a 'breakfast bar' (fiber one bars have tons of fiber in them)... what is it that you hate about cereal? The flavour? The texture? You don't have to put milk on it - you can eat it dry and crispy and drink the milk on the side... I like fiber one mixed with yoghurt or cottage cheese instead of milk. Peanutbutter toast... a pita stuffed with chicken salad... the only limit is your imagination and the length of time you have available to fix/eat. You don't have to give up bacon entirely either - buy a reduced-sodium thin-cut bacon and enjoy two strips with your meal instead of five or six... there is no such thing as a 'forbidden food' - just foods that have to be eaten in moderation. |

Peanut butter on a whole grain english muffin + 1/2c to 1 c of fruit on the side. Keeps me full for 4 hours. My office mate eats broccoli for breakfast, but I'm not sure I could do that :) |

I eat soup everyday for breakfast--usually a low fat variety like chicken and wild rice. You can eat the entire can for around 200 calories. It is warm and comforting, fast and easy, and fairly nutritious and seems to keep me going until lunch. |

I made this yesterday, and u r right. This was fab. I also tried the muffin and gravy recipe, and yum! Today, I am having soup for breakfast. I do love soup, so this should be a quick one when I don't feel up to cooking. Thank everyone for being so supportive, and with such wonderful ideas! |
