Perils of Being Short - Need Appetite Control Tips

Quote  |  Reply

Hi. I'm 5'0 and 150 pounds, and I'm looking to get to my goal weight of 130. The calorie counter says I should be 115, but I haven't been that light since sophomore year in high school when I ran 5 miles everyday. For the past 8 years I've wavered between 140 and 150 - last year I lost 10 lbs in about 8 weeks and that was great, but since I've ballooned back up. I walk between 2 and 4 miles everyday, but have a desk job. Anyway, 130 for me would be a dream come true.

My main problem is my appetite. Does anyone have any good tips on natural ways to suppress the ole' appetite? Or really filling low calorie foods? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

Fresh veggies are really good for low-calorie snacks and very nutritious :]  Sometimes when you feel like you're hungry, you could really just be thirsty so make sure you drink enough water.  Tea is also supposed to be an appetite suppressant, methinks.

When I'm feeling really hungry between meals I munch on some baby carrots.  At about 5 calories each you can eat 10-20 of them for about 50-100 calories and I think they taste really good.  You can also try  upping your water intake because sometimes when you think you're feeling hunger, you're acturally in need of more water.  Try those two things and see if they help.  Good Luck!

I accidentally discovered that drinking peppermint tea seems to make me less hungry - and I've finally trained myself to like unsweetened iced tea (homemade by brewing 1 regular tea bag + 2 fruity herbal tea bags then pouring into a jug with a whole bunch of lemon slices and ice cubes then filling the rest of the way with cold water) and it seems to be helping me keep from being hungry all the time.  The iced tea is also helping keep me from drinking sugary drinks.  (Crystal Light worked for that too, but it always seemed to make me hungry.)

I'm the same height and have the same goal as you!  Isn't it amazing they want us to be 115?  Anyway the low calorie snacks are a must if you want to feel full and stick to your diet.  Sometimes you need a little protein to get you through without having a million veggies which get boring all of the time.  I have veggie cheese slices, a couple of slices of deli meat, or a wedge of laughing cow.  Just try not to get tempted to eat more that your allotment.  If you need quantity, definitely go with the veggies or pop a 100 calorie bag of popcorn.  Good luck fellow 5 footer :)

I agree with everything the other posters have suggested. But I just wanted to add my little thing. Sometimes I KNOW Im not hungry but am either bored..or just having a craving to eat. Like I just wanna chew on something. So I get a cup full of ice chips and I really do feel like I've eaten something. Or sometimes if I really am a little hungry and need something small...I have a piece of cheese.

I'm a fellow 5 footer.  I've found that protein keeps me feeling full the longest.  Try an egg, they always worked well.  Or try sugar free Instant Breakfast that always keeps the hunger pangs away for a long while.    I also like to eat beans, low fat and good fiber and protein. Also fruit is a food from heaven.  Low in calories and lots of fiber.Good luck and don't give up.
