Varying Intake cruithear
  Jul 07 2008 00:55

My food intake varies on a daily basis, ranging from as low as 900 to a maximum of 1700... is the constant change in the amount of calories I'm taking in going to have a negative effect on my weight loss goals?  My burn meter estimate (today at least) is 2790 cal, so I'm still holding well below the threshold.

Once you start going below 1500 (for males) or 1200 (for females), your body will go into a thing called starvation mode, meaning your metabolism will slow down and your body will begin to hold onto every calorie it consumes just incase it needs it for future when you do'nt get enough food again..

SOO. Going below that is definitely a bad thing.

Overall varying your caloric intake is a great thing. Keeps the metabolism nice and fast and losing as much weight (HEALTHILY) as possible.

What's your Basal Metabolic Rate? You should probably eat from as high as this, to a few hundred lower, and vary it.

Mine is around 1800 so really I should be eating:

1800, 1400, 1600, 1800.. Will keep my body from hitting a plateau but I should still be losing.

On top of that, you have any exercise that you're doing which burns extra cals.

Good luck ^_^
