I'm 5'4" and about 310 pounds. I am 20 years old. My final goal is about 140 pounds and I will be happy. My main motivation for losing weight is my health. At 20 years old my back is already in constant pain, my feet, ankles, and knees are sore everyday after work... I find it hard to even do my job without losing my breath. Of course... working at Dairy Queen doesn't help... and I'm a vegetarian as well. I'm hoping to make some friends of any age, hopefully trying to lose a similar amount of weight or even someone who is almost at their goal that can help give me encouragement. I'll return the favor!
I have a boyfriend whom I live with... he is about 240 pounds I believe... slightly overweight but not nearly as much as me. I was wondering if anyone also had some suggestions to help him. Ways to get him involved in my weight loss so he can lose weight too without calling it a "diet" or "weight loss program" or anything... he is rather sensitive about his weight... but I know that it would be good for his health and our relationship if we did this together.
i'm in a similar situation with the boyfriend. Maybe we can bounce ideas off each other because he has ZERO motivation.
Mine is the same... I am cooking healthy food at home... but he still gets deep friend tacos at jack in the box every chance he gets... and dips them in ranch. After work I have trouble getting him to excersise with me... we go on walks together sometimes though.
I had the same problem with my ex-girlfriend, she wanted to lose weight but wanted to continue eating a very large amount of food every day. The way we both broke out of that was to get smaller plates, and start serving based on plate size. I know the urge to eat fast-food can be great, but if you start eating less at home you will feel less of an urge to eat large amounts of food while eating out. I realize this is geared toward your boyfriend, but the same idea still applies... if he starts eating less at home, he will be less inclined to eat more outside. That, and avoid all-you-care-to-eat style buffets; I gained 45 lbs. my Freshman year because of those and my eating habits were affected until my Junior year.
I feel like I missed a big point: if the plate is smaller he won't think he is eating less. You could also try serving is food, so he doesn't notice there is less being put on the plate. I used to be the one who cooked and served the food, so when I bought smaller plates for my ex and myself, I just put the smaller amount on the smaller plate and she never even noticed. =)
Hello, I am new to site as well and in the same weight range.
I live in Australia and not far from the beach which will be my goal to walk across the sand again by Spring (Sept) with my 3 young sons and do some beach fishing.
I know what your talking about when you say affecting your health it is happening to me but I am 50yrs old and I know if I don't do something about my weight now, I might as well pick out my pine box.
Today is my first day and the kids are on school holidays, so maybe a day to make some fruit kebabs.
Good luck and hope we can share our success stories over the next few months.

I have trouble with getting him to exercise. I kind of trick him into doing it by saying something like, " I forgot how to do squats(or something) right, could you show me?" Then we'll wind up doing a half an hour workout at home with him "teaching" me.

I wish you the best of luck. I have had multiple spine surgeries (where I was bed ridden for 6 months at a time) over the years that caused me to put on a lot of weight. I started on here 6 months ago at 253lbs. I am now at 173 (80 lbs lost) and feel much better. My doctor suggested Alli capsules to help, and they have really kept my diet in check. If I eat too much fat while I take Alli, I start having side effects So, it has really helped me stay true to my diet and eat much healthier. My husband wants to lose weight too and has lost about 25lbs so far. He is a vegetarian as well and cheese is his weakness. But, smaller portions, buying non-fat or 2% cheese instead of full fat, and stopping the sodas have really helped him take off a few pounds. He is a programmer and sits at a computer ALL DAY. So, it is very hard for him to get any exercise. But, he is losing slow and steady.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
I am a vegetarian too. When I started losing weight I was 185 lbs. I am now 145. You need to dedicate yourself not to a "diet" but to a life change! I remember it was the first week that I thought I was gonna die, but after that it was easier with each day and when you see the weight disappearing it only makes things joyous! Feel free to add me as a friend!!

As a fellow 5'4''er, who once weighed 340 pounds and worked at KFC, I must advise you to get a new job. Try working in retail like I did. Also, as you lose the weight, you'll have that employee discount to buy all those new stylish clothes you'll need. Now I'm 229 pound and like you I want to be 130-140 pounds.
I can't blame your boyfriend since I hate exercise, too. I find doing something fun helps to eliminate true "exercise". I go to the club and dance from 10-2 AM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays drinking water instead of alcohol from the bar. If I want to look like an alckie like my friends, I have the bartender add some club soda for the perfect affect. I park far from the building so I can get in some extra steps. I also take the steps instead of the elevator.
For food, I find substitutes for the things I like. For any food your boyfriend and you like, you can find a nice substitute. When I make cookies I use applesauce instead of vegtable oil. Still doesn't mean I can eat 10 cookies but I can eat the 2-3 without the guilt and excessive calories.
Make sure you keep a journal and/or a food log on this site. It really helps! Feel free to check mine out. Good luck on reaching your goals!
