I live in a second floor apt - dont have money for a gym membership and would like to do cardio/strength training in my living room, I need something without jumping because it would disturb the downstairs neighbors - who pound on the ceiling if the TV is too loud.  Any ideas??

I would invest in a stationary bike. that is very good cardio. I know this sounds funny , but you could lay on your back and peddle your legs in the air in circular motion like a bicycle movement. while watching tv that would be a good form of cardio as well. i used to do that when i had no bike. for stength i would invest in a few resistance bands. also a good pilates video. i like the maximum burn series from mari winsor, you get some cardio thats not loud or requires jumping and strength traing too. when you use the bands, and its all in one dvd.

Elizabeth -- I would recommend Jari Love's DVDs. With the exception of "Get Ripped 1000," the rest of her DVDs are "quiet" strength training exercises with weights. A very difficult workout but very worth it. "Get Ripped 1000" is the only DVD that has intensive cardio, and I would avoid that if you want to avoid jumping around.

Thanks for the answers! they all sound great. I would love to get a stationary bike, I will have to start looking around for a used one!

When I lived in an apartment, my cardio was running up and down the stairs - 1 flight up, then down, 5 times. I also took my skipping rope outside.
