this is one of those restaurants that's independently owned, no nutrition facts, etc. and it's ALSO a place my family goes to traditionally, so i was wondering what i could possibly order and what would be an appropriate estimation of the calorie counts. i've tried, but i feel that i'm completely off the mark at times and some of you here seem to be experts at this (haha i'm serious).

i was thinking of the jumbo lump crabcake sandwich without any tartar sauce, but i don't know. maybe just a grilled chicken sandwich? it's always the buns that throw me off. and, in all honesty, i could just toss half the bun, but an estimation would be nice anyway. and salads are always an option, as well as soup. any help? thanks!

When you're stuck looking at a menu or choosing from a buffet table or eating out at a friend's house try to aim for the following...

1/2 plate full of vegetables (cooked without butter) or salads

1/4 plate (approx 5oz cooked weight) carbohydrate.... potatoes, rice, pasta etc.

1/4 plate (approx 4oz cooked) lean protein.... grilled meat, fish, beans etc.

Small spoonful of any sauces or dressings

If you do that the whole meal will come to about 500 calories.  It's as good a guide as any.
