| Need Advise About the IUD Mirena | ||
| Jul 04 2008 00:33 | ||
Can anyone give me any advise on what to look for while on the Mirena? I just got the Mirena inserted last Friday; so it has only been 6 days; however it seems that I will not stop bleeding. (please forgive me for being so blunt). I started my cycle that Thursday. I went in for the Mirena that Friday. And now what should I do??????? Does anyone know how long I could possible bleed? |

Hi ts- I don't have any experience with mirena; but have seen posts on it. If you put mirena into the search box and search the forums; I think you'll see some answers to your questions.
Best advice I can give is to call your doctor though!! |

I tried the IUD with copper in it the first time and everytime I got my period it seemed like I was going to bleed to death! Apparently copper and me dont get along so I switched to Mirena. The first period after the mirena was not fun for me I was bleeding heavily for about a week and then went on to spot everyday till the next period. The next month I had more of a normal period but still spotted pretty much everyday. The third month my period was normal and the spotting is gone. My doc told me it would take up to 3 months for things to go back to normal and that hopefully my periods will get lighter and lighter and by about a years time I may not have a period at all. Not sure if that will ever happen but I can say it did take 3 months for my body to get back to normal. Hope I did not scare you by being to blunt!!! Hope you dont take as long to get back to normal as I did but even if it takes awhile just keep reminding yourself it will get better! HTH |

The mirena has the same hormone that they use in the depo shot, and i'm on that. The longer you hoave it in, the less your periods should get. They normally vanish on the mirena, but you have to be patient. Lots of spotting, and your period could last for weeks to months. But really, hang in there and if your doc isn't worried, then you shouldn't be. But once it's settled in there, and your period stops, you'll be glad you kept it. I'm thinking about getting the mirena too so I've done tons of research on it :) And don't forget to take iron and calcium supplements if you're not getting enough in your diet right now. |

i had a baby in 05, and breast fred a whole year, with no period at all, so when I got mirena I still never had a period. I had the mirena for a year, I felt nauseas every single day for the last three months (a very rare side effect i found out) so I had it removed. As that was my only side effect I say just stick it out. my cousin had heavy bleeding with hers the first month, but she has very short light periods now. |

I just got the Mirena in October. My first six weeks were horrible.. I had really bad cramping and continuous (although light) bleeding for about the first month. Aside from that first six weeks, it has been fabulous. I get one day 'periods' now that consist of bleeding so light that I only notice it when I wipe |

I had the Mirena for 2 years, and mostly loved it. Yes, you will bleed for a few weeks after first insertion, but then bleeding slows to a minimum. After about two months, I stopped getting my period entirely. When I took it out in May last year, it only took 1.5 months to get pregnant! I'm a big advocate of the Mirena! |

It's nice to see all this information about Mirena. I am going to be going on it with in the next month...and doctor has yet to mention some of these side effects. At least I know what to expect! |

I have thought about the Mirena too, but a friend of mine got it and has had a bad odor for months since getting it and the doctor can't find the source! I find that very strange, maybe she also had a very rare side effect. I don't really know much about it but the thought of getting it put in during my period is kinda gross. Also, like someone said Mirena contains the same hormone as the Depo shot, well I don't think that would work for me because I was on the shot and I bled non-stop and had to switch to the pill. But I still think it's a great idea if you already have kids, this is something you don't have to worry about for 5 years. And if the period goes away for good after 6 monthes - 1 year, well that's even better! Good luck |

Hello,
I was on the Mirena for four years before getting pregnant. The first month was the worst with the bleeding and cramping, but afterwards didn't have any other side effects. I will have it inserted after I give birth in Dec. Good luck. |

I have had the Mirena for about for about 3 years. My memory is a little fuzzy on the details, If you are worried call your doctor. Oh, I just noticed that the original post was July 3! Hope everything turned out okay. |

I have had my Mirena for 2+ years, it was the same for me, spotting for a couple of months, but by 6 months I stopped getting a period. Every now and then I will spot for a day, but it is VERY rare. I'm a huge fan of Mirena! |
