So I am doing pretty well with planning my eating out ahead of time. I pack my bag for work and then head out the door. I get here and tend to the first things that need my attention while I sip my coffee. Then I jump on here and enter all the food that I have brought to make sure that I am not going over my limits. Seeing it all written out makes me accountable for eating the crappy stuff too! ( I log every m&m that enters my mouth! ha ha)
So I packed my whole wheat and honey bagel and other snacks and went to work today. After I added up what I wanted to eat... I realized that it was horrible!! So I picked through my shelf of the work fridge and made some alterations....
Deleted bagle and cream cheese and added a piece of string cheese, a yogurt, and a bowl of captain crunch with soy milk, plus the almonds and apple that I had brought today. It just blows my mind that I can eat all of that and stay under my calorie goal or eat the bagel and go over by about 200 calories!
My problem is this: The captain crunch has more sugar in it than I want and the bagel and cream cheese is calling my name *pout* It's smoked salmon cream cheese too!!! *pout* I wish they would make the whole wheat bagels in the small form!!!!! Then It would all be OK. But I only find those in white at my grocery stores.
And the saga continues as I am constantly shot back to reality when I educate myself.
It's not just the "numbers" that matter but what is going to satisfy you and keep you on track? There are a lot of good or okay choices that people pass up here because they are "too many" calories. I don't eat bagels and don't see the deal with them, but in this case I would think that the bagel and salmon/cream cheese choice is better than Capn' Crunch. For one, the bagel has fat in it that can satiate your appetite for quite a while. Capn' Crunch may lead (may have already lead) to a serious sugar crash which is why you are still yearning for more.
You could buy a big bagel and cut them up and put them in a zip loc right after you buy them, to keep you to eating a 1/2. A bagel itself isn't that great a choice but you can eat stuff on it or with it to make it better. Then you're not craving for stuff while you're working.
Eat some almonds for now.
grrr doesnt it know i hit the stop button lol
i make my own bagels, they are actually pretty easy, and they dont have any preservitives. I hadnt used one from CC yet, but i did find aww bagel recipe here incase you wanted to try it someweekend. (i put my extras in the freezer pre-split). (hope the link works) (I'd also make these bagels half theyre size)

This would make there bagels about 115 calories each, so there is plenty of room for smked salmon cream cheese... tho ya prolly still shouldnt have one everday lol.
They make mini wheat bagels, they are really tiny though for as many calories that they contain though. What I find is really good is multi-grain english muffins, they are made by Thomas' they have 100 calories and only 1.0 grams of fat AND 7grams protein! They're great with peanut butter. I find them by the bread at my super market, heh see I didn't say Wal-Mart! I'm safe! ![]()
Hey coppertop,
Lol, if the bagel is calling you by name, then just eat it! :) All things in moderation, you know. I agree with another posting, even though it's lower in calories, nutritionaly speaking, Cap'n crunch may not be all that much better. Although I love this site, I fear that some people may use it to see how LOW they can get their calorie intake. While calorie intake should be considered, overall health is more than just a number! And don't forget, you don't HAVE to eat the bagel all in one sitting! From using this site, I have found that if I get in some extra exercising, i.e. walking the dog, swimming, etc., then I can actually eat MORE than what the site recommends for me, and still lose weight. This morning I indulged in a half of a double chocolate muffin. :) Just as long as we are not eating high fat foods a lot or all the time!
