Percentages vs. Grams

can someone explain to me how the daily percentages work?  Like say my diet is 25% fat 30% protein and 45% carbs.  but say my fat is 200 grams, its still only 25%, but thats still 200grams of fat.  Am I asking this clearly?  I just don't understand how the percentages work.

nope help at all huh?  nothin?  this is what I get for turning towards humanity for help I guess.

Humanity calling.... :-)

There's a level of energy intake you need each day to maintain your weight and function properly... let's say 2000 calories.  The percentages show you how those 2000 calories were made up.  So if you got 25% from fat that would mean 500 calories came from oils and fats.  If those fats lean more towards vegetable oils and less towards animal fats, even better.  500 cals is about 4 tablespoons of olive oil.

Suggested benchmark numbers for the different food groups are .. fat 20-30%, protein 20-25%, carbohydrate 50-60%.  The more you eat, clearly the more of each food group will be included.  Someone on a 3000 cal diet could have 750 - 1000 of those calories from fats and would still be enjoying a healthy, balanced diet.

Don't know if that helps.
