Are there foods you purposely dont have in your home, healthy or not?

Nuts/ PB.  Try to get a serving size when I do my shopping but they are too tempting to any longer keep a can/jar at home.  Im quite disciplined so its particularly obvious how it  pulls me in for more, more.

Bananas, also healthy and usually get one too with my nuts on grocery day but I dont buy a bunch because I will be 'on' them until there gone.

Living solo, Ive no need to buy unhealthy items but after my daughter left, I dont remember anything giving me a problem that was left behind until I gave it away or tossed it.  Its the stuff I know I can eat but is plays with my portion control.

I generally shop in the produce department primarily, and also the frozen/canned food aisles. I don't ever buy pre-packaged meals, or processed junk like desserts, candy, crackers or chips.... I just avoid those aisles completely!

I also only buy 2 bananas at a time since they only last about 2-3 days.

And, of course we never have meat or dairy in the home since we don't eat those!

Doritos and CheeseItz....I'll eat the whole package in a few days.
Raisins, 'cause they're nasty.  Any other foods I have really good self control with and don't mind having around.

I have to be careful with grapes, because I can eat pounds of them without even thinking about it.

I can't have chips of any kind, or flavored crackers. I will give into salty snacks almost instantly.

I've thought about banning PB, but I love it too much to kick it out - I just live with the occasional PB binge and try to do better.

I actually can't keep cottage cheese in the house haha. Cottage cheese portion control does not exist for me. I love it far too much. mmmm

I don't keep chips or candy around.  They both fall under nutritionally devoid.  I also have next to no alcohol avail (I keep a bottle or two of wine around in case I happen to have any guests).  No white bread (in fact hardly any refined carbs), and no high fat cheeses either.

i can't have potatoes in the house.  it doesn't matter how many times that i tell myself i'm going to oven roast them or cook them on the grill with just a little olive oil and seasoning, they always end up as hashbrowns or french fries (and if the latter, they're usually in poutine).
i don't buy candy or chips or cookies.  If I buy Oreos(with milk) I will eat almost the whole damn thing.  And I'll eat chips if there is french onion dip.  So I don't buy that stuff.  That's the only thing I am really bad with.

Initially I banished all sweets, crackers, chips, etc but I've found that nowadays I don't seem to care one way or the other.  I guess it's all the practice of knowing what I'm going to have to log later.

I know what you mean about the CheezeIts! Man I can devour a whole box in one day. I can't torture myself anymore so I don't buy them at all.

Same here with Cheez-Its.  Any flavor.

And any ice cream.  I'll keep having one serving a day until its all gone.  I'm talking EVERY DAY.  Same with SF chocolate pudding.  I buy a 4-pack occassionally for a treat.

Nuts....no will power....a rabid dog on a bunny hunt, sad really.

  • chips
  • cereal that I really, really love
  • candy
  • fruit in excess of daily recommendations
  • baked sugary things
  • white carby stuff
  • high sodium anything

I'm pretty sure I could eat these things in moderation now, but am not positive because I've only been doing this 3 months. So until I've been doing this a year and am confident I'm not going to fall back into old patterns, my shopping list is restrictive. I'm happy to say that in learning to live without these foods, I've found some excellent replacements.

individually wrapped chocolates, or bite-size chocolates. By the time I notice, I've eaten half a dozen and not really enjoyed them. But I LOVE twix so much... NO, bad Kasi!

Weirdo, here.  I don't believe in banishing foods from the house, unless I risk wasting them.  I freeze foods that I'm eating less of (Reese's, meats, breads) and I have invested in airtight containers for nuts and rice.

As someone who has had problems with compulsive behaviors, including emotional eating, I don't believe in prohibiting foods.  That doesn't teach you good habits, just prevents you from "committing dietary sin".

I've had chocolate in the freezer for weeks now.  Ice cream is lasting a long time (it's for my son, I haven't touched it in months).

I grew up with parents that removed foods when they were dieting, hid foods from each other, blamed me for baking treats (I was underweight) that tempted them.  I won't do that to my kid.

Nuts - :/

One day those who discovered the good fats in them will also discover the addictive aspect of them.  Oil and salt just sounds too easy.

Raw nuts aren't as bad, sun123.  It takes me a long time to go through raw almonds (so chewy).  Lightly salted pistachios, the same for me.  Taste great but when I'm done w/ one serving, I'm done for a while.

I don't really ban anything.  but I don't buy anything that is salty and so quick to grab like cheezits, chips, nuts, cheese in blocks, and stuff like that in any larrge quantity.  I don't binge on something until its gone in one day, but I'll eat a serving of good stuff like that everyday until its gone.  a whole week of servings of salty junk is no good!

Ice Cream!!!! If I know it is in the freezer then I crave it like there is no tomorrow and will constantly be dipping my spoon into it. Which I feel less guilty doing then actually putting in a bowl. Putting in a bowl makes me feel like I am actually eating a full serving while just eating random scoops doesn't. Total bad mind game and just makes me eat more then I should. But when it isn't in the house then I could care less that it even exists.

When I'm dieting I try not to buy cookies.

But recently my mom bought a box of cookies, so to avoid myself from eating them I just put them in the highest level of the pantry waaaayyy in the back. I need a chair to reach them so when I'm tempted I have time to think it over a bit.
