| Peanut butter and why it is addicting | ||
| Jun 02 2008 14:06 | ||
After a poster quoted that peanut butter "must contain crack" (kudos to whoever thought of this--awesome!) because of its addictiveness, it got me thinking. Why has peanut butter been claimed as one of the most addictive health foods? 1.) Healthy fats: Probably one of the most obvious answers. Dieters often get the mindset that fats in foods are bad and should be avoided. Wrong! Choose healthy fats from nuts, nut butters, seeds, olive oils, and avocados. 20-30% of your calories should come from fat. 2.) Nutrients: Peanut butter contains many of the vitamins and nutrients that dieters often cut in order to shed pounds. Copper is one of those nutrients, mostly found in red meat, which dieters often cut down or eliminate from their diets. Niacin and tryptophan are mostly found in chicken and fish, so vegetarians often seek these nutrients found in peanut butter. Learn all about the benefits of peanuts found in the tasty butter here: http://whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=101 The next time you take an extra spoonful of peanut butter and are thinking of punishing yourself, pat yourself on the back and say, "my body was probably just replenishing itself of some needed nutrients!" So let's all welcome back peanut butter and include it into our daily diets. Hope you all enjoyed my little show about peanuts. :D |

argh! peanut butter! it's from HELL. i hate this 'healthy fat' things, in my rather large book, there's no such thing as a healthy fat. even the word fat repulses me. my mate lee, well, he's not my mate, but this lad i know, called lee, reckons just because he used to suffer apparently from anorexia but now he's recovered (even though he has a phobia of touching apple stalks, for some bizarre reason, and he has a fear of the smell of greggs bakery), that he's some form of nutrition expert, and he constantly tells me peanut butter is good. it's NOT. i remember the last time somebody told me peanuts and the like were good, and i was like 11 and naive, and i went onto this peanut diet, where everytime i was hungry, i ate those peanut cereal bars called tracker, and i went up to 10 and a half stone! and when i questioned why, it's because peanuts are like the most calorific things ever. and teamed with butter? isn't butter just pure fat anyway?
it's all disgusting, i'm convinced. luckily, i hate butter anyway, and i've never touched it since i was 3. i dont know why, but i always remember trying a ham and cheese and butter sandwich at my nan's, and the butter stuck to the roof of my mouth, and it disgusted me so much, i havent touched it since. lo-fat salad cream rules all |

It is called butter because of its consistency. There is no butter in PB. Most of the time, it is just peanuts, salt, and sugar. And PB and peanuts ARE good for you, in a normal amount. You just can't eat cup after cup, bar after bar. I would love to eat PB more than I do, but I know my limits! |

Original Post by revolution3: lmao yes i'm the calorie hater! infact, if i could consume 0 calories a day, i'd be the happiest lassie alive. :)
and to xeonicus, above me, i know what you mean about pecans, and stuff like you get those little bags of bombay mixes and nuts and s**t from vending machines. when i was first at college, i tried one of the bombay mixes, which tasted like utter rabbit food, but i thought, ooh, low calorie content, and then when i checked the back, it had like half a days worth in! xx. |

Original Post by agelikiaddiction:uh you probably wouldn't be alive. and if you were, you'd be pretty tired. and I'd take a PB sandwich over cake or cookies any day. One sandwich might be the caloric equivalent to a large cookie, but the PB is like an injection of energy syrum right to my gut.Original Post by revolution3: |

PB is my friend and enemy at the same time...I love it and can't stop at just one bite...I want the whole jar. So I try to limit myself. I remember as a teenager (don't you miss THAT metabolism) and I would smother my morning waffles with Peanut butter! OH YUMMY! Alas, as I get older, I find that I cannot do that and still hold on to my girlish figure! Samantha |

I love love love peanut butter with a sliced apple. I stick to one serving or less and always buy the natural brand that is made from peanuts and salt (more flavor and none of the bad stuff). |

Why are we all typing in bold??? PEANUT BUTTER!!! I had a red delicious apple today, paused by the pantry, opened it, saw the jar of PB, removed the lid, smelled it (ohhh so yummy!) and had 1/2 a fingernails' worth..........-don't gross out, I live alone and the dog is too short to reach it! BTW, how do I count that on CC?!?! |

Original Post by mysurferrosa: I totally agree on well all counts there. I love peanut butter w/apple slices, or whole wheat crackers. And I always liked pb but was never addicted to it until I tried the natural stuff (just peanuts and salt)! Now 2 tbsp (1 serving) and an apple is almost a daily snack, it would be daily but I tend to run out a few days before I get groceries again...so I'm deprived for a few days. I put the 2 tbsp. in a little tupper-ware and take it w/me so I'm not tempted to eat the whole jar! |

I love peanut butter and just seeked out a low-calorie alternative today. I came across Better 'N Peanut Butter. Look that up. The only bad thing, it seems, is that it is expensive! Of course I am going to order some soon, though. |
